For as bad as Chicago sports are right now, I’m very thankful for my son’s basketball team; he’s carrying me right now… haha. Well, there is one other thing: Fantasy Football. After this weekend, all but 4 teams in each of my 3 leagues are remaining, battling for the fantasy football championship. Fortunately for me, I am in the final four of each of those fantasy football leagues; boo ya!
Let’s start with the family league. Unfortunately, my dad was the opponent in the first round matchup; he got destroyed… haha. It was a 65 point slaughter in favor of the “legend” vs the “newbie”. In his first playoff appearance ever, it was just bad luck that he had to face a team as great as mine… haha. Just talking shit. So I knock out my dad, and lo and behold, who is waiting for me in the semifinals… my son. Yeah, it’s a father son thing I guess. Will the son knock the father out again this week? Looking at his team, damn they got some favorable matchups. I’m not crying about my team’s matchups, but DAMN, he’s got some great matchups. If there was one semifinal I wouldn’t mind losing, it would be this one; I wouldn’t mind winning it either… just saying… haha.
The other two are where the money is at. Getting TO the Finals means cash. I already secured some cash with a 1st place in the regular season finish & first round bye in my keeper league, and now, I must face a familiar foe in the semifinals. He’s one of my two oldest friends. We have been playing fantasy football together for about 30 years, no joke. Way before ESPN and Yahoo, we had to keep track of our own stats via the Chicago Sun Times. Yeah, we’ve been at it for a while. He is in multiple big money leagues; he knows his shit. He is certainly a respected adversary, but.. he must go down… haha. Funny enough, he has some of the same players my son does, and that means his matchups are really favorable this week. Again, mine aren’t too shabby either. May the best team win.
In my auction league, I had to play in the first round; it was against another old foe… not as old as my grammar school buddy, but… the guy that started these Yahoo leagues. Yeah, we’ve been at it for more than a decade, and faced off against each other in the playoffs. Amazingly, I had Tua and he had Baker Mayfield, and I still won comfortably!!! Yeah, a 37.5 point victory, thanks to double digits from every guy on my roster other than my kicker; that’s called balance! My reward is the semifinals against someone I’ve known longer than my grammar school friend: my brother. Glad he got his money for 1st place in the regular season in this league because I’m about to take him out… haha. Here’s my big decision: Do I trust Tua after he almost screwed me the first week? I have time to figure that out. Herbert is my other QB; don’t like his matchup at all. So, I picked up a QB off the wire; do I dare start Cooper Rush in the Fantasy Football semifinals??? It’s these types of decisions that could decide my fate. As we used to say back in the day… let your big nuts swang.
They are swanging, let me tell you. Making it to the final four in each of my leagues sets me up for an unprecedented feat: 3 for 3 fantasy titles! That sounds awesome, and would certainly help my head grow a size, but I’d be happy with just one. In these playoffs, anything can happen during a single week. Just as easily, I can go 0-3 and miss the finals in each league; the way this year has been going, I wouldn’t be surprised… haha. Stay tuned.
