There’s a song that’s come out lately… Get numb to it I think is the name. Anyways, that’s sort of how I feel about the Bears season at this point; Sunday against the Niners in San Francisco was just the latest chapter. I just sat on the couch, staring at the TV, watching the continuous car wreck that is the 2024-2025 Chicago Bears season. When will it end? Four more weeks and it will all be over, thankfully.
After this latest debacle, the only question I have is… who is left to fire? Are we looking at Poles now? Are we going to take the QB coordinator who became offensive coordinator who became interim head coach in about a month’s timeframe and send him packing? What exactly IS the problem? Can’t blame Eberflus any more… or can we? Of course we can; we can blame him for this year, even though he’s already taken the fall for it. Still, do more have to fall before we can move forward? The first half was about as bad as it gets. At least in the 2nd half, we proved that we still do have a pulse…
What’s the record for most sacks in a year? I’m so happy I asked. The single season record is 76; the lucky QB was David Carr in 2002… how’d his career turn out? The Bears record? 66 in 2004. How many times has Caleb Williams been sacked so far this year, with 4 games to go btw? After the 7 allowed in Frisco, we’re up to 56. The Bears record and for that matter, the NFL record is in jeopardy. Save Caleb?!?! It’s not all the offensive line’s fault; Caleb, the rookie, has to take some of that heat. Surely, the OC… who got fired… and the new OC… who was promoted… and the head coach…. who got fired… are all to blame as well. It’s a shit show. It’s amazing he hasn’t thrown more picks, although one did go through the LBs’ hands early in this one. I read something that said he has the NFL rookie record for most games started (13) with the fewest picks (7); there’s something to be happy about… I knew we’d find it eventually.
What’s happened to the defense? The Niners cut through us like butter in the first half, with a 3rd string RB btw. The Niners looked like, well, finally themselves; it only took almost the whole season, and it was against us, so… do they still have a chance to cash my division ticket on them? Probably not, especially with a date with Detroit coming soon. Best possible outcome for them is 9-8, which may just be good enough to win the NFC West. They’ll be rooting for us later this year when we host the Seahawks, that’s for sure.
Playing spoiler is about all we got left, besides keeping Caleb from sustaining a serious injury. Sure, winning a division game would be nice. They should a graphic that we lost all 3 division games thus far by a combined 7 points. Beating the Packers in Green Bay would be about the best thing to happen between now and the offseason, although the way this season is going, I’m not sure we’ll win another game… I’ll keep watching though; I can’t turn away…
