They got to have a name for everything huh? Yes, the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving is now officially known as “Black Out Wednesday”, and no, that isn’t a shot at Chicago Sports Network… still pissed. Yes, the biggest party night of the year officially has a label now; black out huh? Is that what we’re encouraging now?

The night before Thanksgiving has long been a holiday I’ve observed. I may or may not have “blacked out” over the years, but I sure have had fun on this evening. I continued the tradition this year, but it only included going out to eat and watching Gladiator II at the show; it was a fun night. I would get into details about Gladiator II, but… don’t want to be a spoiler. I will say this: it was entertaining, but if you thought it’d be better or as good as the original, well… we know that typically is not the case. Godfather II may be one of the exceptions; I feel like we’ve been over this before.

As the years go by, I don’t remember who I tell what; nice thing about that, is I don’t have to worry about it… because I’m not a bullshit artist. Yeah, the only bad thing would be me repeating myself. Actually, this year has been pretty much like that; it’s a day to day, week to week proposition; maybe it has to do with all my previous “black out Wednesdays”… haha. Yeah, no blacking out any more, although after my friend’s wedding earlier this year, I tried to crack the top 10. Those days are very few and very far between… the last time before my friend’s wedding when I got super trashed was probably my work party from a few years back, and then before that, another couple years back… in fact, since my son was born 12 years ago, I could probably count on one hand the times where I overindulged… I may have to use my 2nd hand for a couple… but maybe not. Before that, back in my hey day, well, it was a regular occurrence.

Although we didn’t have to wait for this day to come along, we sure as hell made sure that we didn’t let it go by without hitting it hard. Card nights, club nights, and of course, the Madden Bowls… so many fun times. Whatever option we chose on this evening, one thing was for sure; we were getting F’d up. That’s what you do in your 20s, right? Thankfully, everybody made it through, unless you count my buddy who died from drinking years later… Actually, headed back to the same funeral home he was laid out in a week or so back… that was fun.

The Wednesday night before Thanksgiving WAS fun though; it’s funny that after all these years there’s a name for it now. I think we’d find that pretty hilarious if we flashed back 20+ years; I think we’d shoot to “black out” too, although we didn’t need any inspiration. Careful out there people.
