November 26, 2024: The Hate Files LXVI

I had to like double check myself… these roman numerals are getting up there. Yes, welcome to the 66th version of the Hate Files. The longest running feature on this website started back on May 16, 2014… and here we sit, 10 years later; do I have that much hate in my soul? It’s died down over the years; there was a lot to get out at first, and although there is still more to get out, new things happen that draw my ire, and what better way to release it than right here; what better time to pass out some hate than the Holiday season. Shall we begin?

I’m usually excited for the start of all my teams’ seasons. Not sure anything can top Opening Day for my Cubs, but Week 1 for the Bears is right up there. Of course, then there’s the start of the Bulls and Blackhawks season pretty close to each other, and although there wasn’t exactly high expectations coming into the 2024-2025 season, I still looked forward to watching my teams play. Thing is, this year, I can’t. This year, we welcomed the Chicago Sports Network to our lives. It sounds good enough… a sports network that is FOR the Chicago fans; cool, can’t wait… Well, that’s all I’m doing right now, is waiting. Since they’ve taken over, and since I’m an Xfinity/Comcast cable user, I can’t watch them; that’s right… I can’t turn on any Bulls or Blackhawks game that I want. So much for being FOR the fans…

F the Chicago Sports Network, and welcome to your Hate File. If there is any one thing/person that deserves my hate at this point, it’s you. Screw you for allowing millions of Bulls and Blackhawks fans to be blacked out; how exactly do you propose we watch our teams then? Buy some antenna and rig up our TVs so that we can get a half ass picture? Are we supposed to pay you $30 to stream through your app, an option that was just recently made available? If you were really for the fans, than everybody, regardless of the choice they make for watching TV at their house, should be able to watch their teams play, but we knew that was lip service from the start. How exactly do you spin up a network and think this is OK? Let me tell you about some of the stupidest, greediest people of all time. Deals should have been in place across the board. Sure, are some of the cable/TV/streaming services greedy too… surely, but it’s not THEIR problem; it’s not THEIR mission to provide Chicago sports programming to the millions of fans in the city and beyond; that is YOUR problem… and you chose to ignore it. You chose to push it off to the start of the regular season and beyond, and now… you just don’t care… which is kind of how I’m feeling about missing watching my teams play at this point; mission accomplished?

The Bulls have played 20 games… I’ve watched exactly 2; one in person and one on ESPN. The Blackhawks have played 22 games… I’ve watched exactly 1, the season opening game on ESPN. Both teams are bad, and maybe that’s why I’m starting not to care either… save myself some stress. Still, I don’t care if my teams are the worst of the worst, I still want to watch them play; thanks to Chicago Sports Network, I can’t. Who’s running that shitshow? Well, it’s owned by Standard Media, the Wirtz Corporation, and Jerry Reinsdorf… enough said. Papa Wirtz is the one who prevented me from growing up watching the Blackhawks, while Reinsdorf, well, he just doesn’t give a shit any more. Greed, greed, greed…

I wish I could punch each of them in the face; that’s what I would like this Holiday season. Kick each one of the folks responsible for this current situation in the nuts or vagina or whatever they have down there. One thing I know they don’t have is heart and/or one ounce of care about the Chicago Sports fans; they don’t give a shit, period. They think people are going to change their lives around to watch? Regardless of how die hard we are, and we are, that ain’t how it works. YOU, Chicago Sports Network, and all the teams should be thankful we watch and care as much as we do, and reward us accordingly; it’s because of US that any of you even have jobs. We shouldn’t have to jump through hoops; it’s NOT the cable/streaming providers fault. It’s YOUR fault Chicago Sports Network… you absolutely suck and I hate you. Happy Thanksgiving.
