Well, it was appropriate that the Bears played the Cardinals in Arizona on Sunday. After losing on a fluke play the week before, this game was going to tell us a lot about this Bears team. This game told us a lot about this Bears team; they are who we hoped they weren’t. Still with a winning record heading into this game, and with only a few “easy” games remaining on the rest of our schedule, adding in what happened the week before, this game’s importance was high. Some say our face plant in this one was worse than the week before… well, I don’t know about that. I do know it completed the 1-2 punch, that feels like, knocked us out for the season. Brutal.
It didn’t start off horribly. We outplayed them early, but only had FGs to show for it. Heading into the half, we were only down by 5, until… how the hell did we give up that long run before the half? That felt like a backbreaker. Arizona, simply looking to get into FG range, ripped off a 53 yard run to the house… with a 3rd string running back. You can’t even make this shit up. After giving up the long pass at the end of the last half we played, then this long run at the end of the first half in this game, all we needed was a catastrophic injury at the end of the 2nd half of this game… and we almost got it. Caleb was running for his life most of the game, sacked a shit load of times, we’re out of the game, but we keep running him out there… I know I question coaching decisions throughout the year. This one falls into that category, to put it nicely. WTF was Eberflus thinking?
Yes, we’re at the stage of the season where we’re calling for our coach’s head; I’m finding it hard not to be in that group. I was OK with firing him at the beginning of LAST season; he didn’t impress me in the least. However, the way the defense finished the year, and considering the man behind that success was Eberflus, I thought he bought himself another chance. Was Eberflus really behind that success? He had something to do with it at the very least, and if only to keep that momentum going on that side of the ball, Eberflus had to return. Well, the defense just turned in their worst effort of the season. After back to back gut-shot losses, has he lost the team? That’s the question of the day. I find that kind of funny… how do you lose a team in 2 games? Sure, I’m just this has been building up, if this is in fact true, but… I don’t know. Although hearing that Detroit OC was interested in the Bears head coaching position if available… maybe Ebeflus’ days are numbered. And, if that’s the case, and everybody knows it, especially the players, then why drag it out?
My oh my how a season can turn quickly. At 4-2, we were making our Super Bowl plans. After 2 straight losses, we’re ready for the end of the world. This IS the NFL at its finest. What’s reality? Probably somewhere in between. Wherever “in between” is, if that place leads to a loss next week against the Patriots at home in Soldier Field, well… something has got to give.
