October 30, 2024: Five is Wild

Well, that was quick. The “epic” World Series between the Dodgers and Yankees came crashing to an end on Wednesday night in the Bronx. I’m glad it’s over.

It started off good enough. That Game 1 victory on a walk-off Freddie Freeman grand slam was awesome. Yes, I was not rooting for the Dodgers by any means, in fact, I hate them, but… I like Freddie Freeman, and I love baseball. To see a World Series game end in this fashion; it was awesome. Unfortunately, the rest of the series was anything but. The Dodgers won Game 2 in LA and Game 3 in NY handily; it was never really in question. The stage was set for a sweep, but… the Yankees finally woke up. They avoided the sweep, which brought us to Wednesday night, Game 5. The Yankees had their ace Gerrit Cole on the mound. IF they could win this one and send both teams back to LA, maybe they could do the impossible? It started off well enough.

The Yankees jumped out to a 5 run lead and Cole was absolutely dealing; every indication said this series was going back to LA. I was happy I bet on the Yankees. Well, maybe that was the kiss of death. It all unraveled in the 5th inning. Forgetting how to catch the ball, forgetting how to throw the ball, and then, between Rizzo and Cole not covering first base… how many chances do you want to give the Dodgers? How can a team that is in the World Series play this bad, in a single inning. A 5 run lead was not good enough, as the Dodgers scored 5 in the 5th inning, to eventually lead to a comeback in Game 5 to win the World Series in 5 games; five is wild!

Seeing the Dodgers win the World Series didn’t get me as mad as I thought. After what’s been transpiring lately, I’m taking this in stride too. Who gives a shit? Spend a billion dollars on your roster and you should win once in a while. Screw the Dodgers, and screw the Yankees while we’re at it. Pretty bad to perform the way they did on the big stage in general, and then to top it off with that shitshow in the 5th inning; that was pathetic, and so was this World Series honestly. I’ll give them the epic Game 1, but after that… a complete snooze fest. It certainly fell short of all the hype it got leading into it; it’s got nothing on 2016…

Let the offseason begin! Will the Cubs actually do something substantial to improve the roster this time around? That is where the attention turns to now. Although with football in high gear, and basketball and hockey rolling, it feels like it’s a long ways away. Until 2025 baseball…
