OK, let’s put a bow on the gut shot loss that was for the Bears on Sunday evening in Washington DC. Unfortunately, I will not be able to erase this from my memory; none of us will. We will remember this loss for a long time; some of us, with a memory for Chicago sports like a steel trap, will remember this forever. That’s great. What I would like to remember, is what happens next. The way the Bears react after a tough loss like this will be everything.
The good thing, is that we still do have time to react; our season is not over. Many of the other tough losses sent us home for the year, whether it happened during the regular season, or in the postseason; season over. We had to wait an entire offseason to see how the Bears reacted from the tough loss. Obviously, the Bears reaction to a tough loss in 1985 is the ideal; in fact, there were 2 tough losses. The 1984 NFC Championship game was loss #1; the loss to the Dolphins in Miami to disrupt our perfect season was #2. The Bears reacted by bringing home our one and only Super Bowl. Take notes guys. This “reaction” was the ultimate; could this loss set the table for the road to the Super Bowl for the Bears? I’m not necessarily talking about this year, but over the next couple years; let this tough loss catapult us forward. We don’t want to feel like that again. Sure, we will lose games again, but let us remember that it’s never over until it’s over, both ensuring we keep the foot on the throat, and never giving up on the flip side. Let’s learn a lesson from this one; that’s how you bounce back.
If the Bears are going to be good, a loss like this should bring them together; this should make them hungrier. They should run on that field this Sunday in Arizona on a mission to put that game behind them ASAP. Pound the Cardinals and get back on track for a successful season this year. Let that game be just a mere speed bump in what should be a prosperous 2024 NFL season. However, if the Bears take that field against the Cards, and look flat… look like they haven’t forgot about last week… let this loss shake the culture that is being built… well, then I could see the wheels falling off; that’s scary. The Bears have been improving each week. This process will not be perfect; it didn’t have to be so painful like this loss, but there would be steps taken backward. Now what?
OK, I’m done, for now. I will talk about this Commanders game again, in reference to how it impacts the rest of this season. Hopefully I can look back and laugh at that game, when I’m celebrating a Bears Super Bowl win. Remember that one game? Yeah, the Bears never looked back. I don’t want to put too much stock in one game, but… with a lens on THIS season, getting back on track on Sunday is critical; showing us fans, and the rest of the NFL that we’re not phased, would be much appreciated…it’s very much necessary for our success. Let’s do this. Bear Down!
