College Football has been really good this year. With the start of the 12 team playoff structure, plus conference realignments, there are all kinds of things to be interested in. Not necessarily a fan of the conference realignments; USC and UCLA in the Big 10 doesn’t really make sense, and based on their performance thus far, maybe they’d agree, but… money never sleeps. The playoffs though… yeah, that’s cool, yet… at the end of the day, will it still be the “big boys”? Probably. Although the conversation will certainly not punish any team that is undefeated (probably), is this 2 loss team better than this 1 loss team? Does this 3 loss team get in? It will eventually lead to a whole new controversy; not sure if that can be avoided, but… should be better than just choosing 4 teams. Anyways…
I listen to three different guys talk college football during the week, from a betting perspective; they are guests on Follow the Money on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Between this approximate combined hour of discussion on a number of games over the weekend, there is a lot of good information. I am certainly not one to blindly follow anyone’s picks, even the experts, but… taking in the conversation, hearing the different angles on the games, and including my take… will lead to my picks each week in College. Not sure if this was mentioned by one of these guys or not, but… even the “sharps” are wrong approximately 45% of the time, so…
On Saturday, you had some pretty big games including Alabama vs Tennessee and Georgia vs Texas; the one I took a specific interest in was Georgia Texas. Georgia has been near the top of college football for a while; they’ve had some tough games, including a loss to Alabama in an epic game earlier this year… I believe it was their first regular season loss in 2 years. Texas meanwhile has looked like the best team in college…kind of like Ohio State last week heading into their matchup vs Oregon. Yet, like OSU, who has Texas really played; they would be taking a step up in competition vs UGA. I loved Georgia in this game. The next question was: how much to bet on it?
I’ve been sticking to my 1 unit plays, very low stakes keep in mind; I’ve been getting impatient lately… my discipline has been wearing thin. In the past, when I have “loved” a game, I got smacked down for taking a shot. Well, that shouldn’t stop me from doing it again, if the stars align. I put 4 units on Georgia, and, and… they came through like champs. It was a nice boost for a slowly eroding bankroll; it was a good feeling to actually hit on a “big bet”. Unfortunately, in my other 3 college bets I was 0-2-1, so… still, a winning day with a losing record, nice. Now, onto the NFL…
