October 14, 2024: Division Check

OK, let’s go around the NFL, checking in on each division through the first 6 weeks of the season. Who will win each division? Who will make the playoffs? Let’s refine our “guesses” from the preseason.

Let’s start in the AFC East. After the Jets choked away the game on MNF, the Bills are in the driver seat at 4-2; are they safe? Well, my preseason pick was Miami; I instantly pulled back half my bet once Tua went down, but… Tua is supposedly coming back, and if that’s the case, and IF he can stay on the field, I think they have as good a shot as Buffalo. And about that other team in this division, the hapless Jets with old man Rodgers, well… things just got a little more interesting with them. Can they make a run? Sure. The only team we can officially count out, and yes, I don’t care if Drake Maye helps them win another game or two, is the New England Patriots. One win thus far on the season, and of course, that was the one that knocked us out of the survivor pool… bastards.

The AFC North is lead by the Ravens, who I guess won’t fall off this year? They are tied with the Steelers, but come on… you think they’re going to keep it up with sub-standard QB play, even if/when Russ comes back? The Steelers will lose more than they win from here on out; in fact, I’ll bet on them under 9.5 win total right now. The Bengals on the other hand… they’ve played so poorly thus far, eeking out a win over the Giants this weekend, but… their defense is getting healthier; their offense should be fine. They will win more than they lose from here on out; in fact, I’ll bet on them over 8.5 win total right now… haha. The other team, well, there has to be somebody in last place in the division, and that somebody, is you Cleveland. No Flacco to save your asses this year, just another serving of Deshaun Watson… woof!

In the AFC South, I guess I’m going to have to take the L on the Titans win total over 5.5? They should have won this weekend against the Colts, but since they didn’t… they’ll continue to fight for last place with… geez, that whole damn division sucks; maybe I can still pull that bet out. Only asking for 6 wins… The Jags are bad; their coach is going to get fired I think. The Colts… speaking about Flacco; as long as he is at the helm, they may have a chance; Richardson on the other hand… woof, nowhere near as bad as Watson, but man, they should ride Flacco. That leaves us with the first place Texans, who should win the division, handily. They haven’t looked the greatest either, but who among the other 3 teams will make a push? Nobody.

And the AFC West, well, it’s the Chiefs and everybody else; need I say more?

OK, that dragged on a bit longer than I thought; we’ll have to do the NFC in part 2 of this division check.
