We all remember our bad beats… some are worse than others. It feels like I’ve been taking my share lately. As I look back at my recent ledger of wagers, and more specifically losses, I think I’m right.
I’m just going to start with my most recent loss and go back from there. I had the Royals on Tuesday night. Ragans on the mound felt like a solid play; he WAS solid, holding the Tigers to 1 run through 7. Unfortunately, the Royals were only able to match that total. I swear every time I looked at the game, KC had runners on base; they couldn’t get the big hit. It went to extras, and I took the L; this is a mild one for sure. Carson Steele & Isiah Pacheco anytime TD were part of my dip into the prop world this past weekend. First of all, KC on 4th and goal from the 1 yard line decides to march out their kicker; wtf?!?! Next, Steele, who was at +550, gets tackled at the 1 yard line later in the game; he stood in the game. Surely, they’ll punch it in next play. But no, not the fancy ass KC Chiefs… they ran play action and tossed a TD to some lineman; jagoffs. Topping off the NFL Sunday was my Giants ML play. Their kicker gets hurt in warmups, so they don’t get one single extra point the whole game. Yeah! 3 TDs = 18 points, and they lose when Washington kicks their 7th FG of the game; I heard Nabers dropped a pass that would have clinched the game for them too… that feels good. Seattle wasn’t a loss, thankfully, but they decide, on 2nd down, as they’re driving to score a TD in OT, to kick a FG… ON 2ND DOWN!!! Run another 2-3 plays and you’re in the end zone… but nooooo. Let me keep going.
Wisconsin +16 vs Alabama. OK, maybe this bet doesn’t win, but the Badgers QB breaks his fricking leg early on… that clinched a loss… haha. How about Waddle anytime TD in the Thursday nighter? He gets tackled at the 1 yard line, before Tua knocks himself out of the game… perfect. Maybe the best one was my Toronto Blue Jays bet last week. You know the game right? Dude was throwing a no hitter into the 9th for the Blue Jays; three outs away from history. First batter in the 9th, Lindor, goes deep, the starter comes out, the bullpen allows 5 more runs, and I get another L; that was bad, but the under was definitely the worse beat there. Maybe New Mexico St ML vs Liberty can be considered one? Liberty scores 21 points in the 4th quarter to win by 6… yep.
It’s kind of like that in life I guess; we remember the bad more than the good. I try my best NOT to live like that, but when it comes to wagering on sports, yeah, I think I’m there. I’m sure this won’t be the end of my list of bad beats… As long as the “good beats” slightly outnumber them, I’ll be cool. Good luck to all of us!
