The Bears get their 2nd opponent of the season on Sunday night in Houston; this will not be an easy game. I’m not saying Week 1 was easy… obviously, it wasn’t. It took a 17 point comeback without the help of an offensive TD. I don’t think that has happened that often. In fact, I thought I read it happened only 2 other times, including a game I was in attendance for in Arizona; you know it… they are who we thought they were… Memories… Well, although that was a magical game, magical year until it wasn’t, I’d rather have a bit more balance. Caleb Williams gets his 2nd career start against the previous year’s #1 pick CJ Stroud. The future of the NFL will be on display in primetime.
CJ Stroud is a year ahead of Caleb; the Houston Texans are a year ahead of the Bears. The Texans IMO are one of the handful of teams who I think COULD win the Super Bowl. They are an extremely solid team. Besides the Niners and Lions who we’ll play later this year, this may be the toughest game. Houston eeked out a win over Indy in the season opener, and will be foaming at the mouth for their home opener; it will not be very welcoming for a rookie QB. So… we’ll have to rely on that defense and special teams again. The Texans have weapon after weapon on offense; this will be challenging. The thing is, I think Houston’s defense is really good too. They are a complete team. I feel like I’m waving the white flag already.
I’m just being realistic; I try that every once in a while. The Texans are 6.5 favorites over the Bears, and everybody loves them. So you’re saying there’s a chance? Yes, of course there is. I could see the Bears staying close in this one; why not? For how little Caleb did last week, he didn’t turn the ball over; I hope this is a trait that will define our QB for years and years. If he had hit that long pass to Keenan… if Keenan had caught that TD pass… always plenty of ifs. Outside of taking a sack he shouldn’t have, and that missed throw, he didn’t do horrible things; he just wasn’t very good, and for a rookie in his 1st start… Oh yeah, one other very important statistic… the Bears won.
Final Score Prediction: Texans 27 Bears 21
Ace in the Hole: Caleb Williams with his 1st career TD pass to…. DJ Moore
I was excited for this season. What happened in Week 1 has not swayed me from that emotion, yet… I need to temper my expectations. I selected the Bears to win 10 games this year; I think that could happen. I think beating the Texans is a tall task, but certainly not out of the realm of possibilities. Actually, you know what is something else that can help a rookie QB? Running the ball, yes, even with Velus Jones Jr. I think the Bears should do a bit more of that in this one, taking the pressure off Caleb, giving our defense the rest it will need in this one. Game plan it up boys. Bear Down!!!
