May 28, 2015: Thibo-go

Say it ain’t so… Thibo-go.  This can’t be true…. what did we do?  This Bulls team is done…. now starts the “fun”.

Everybody seemed to know this day was coming.  Although the broken relationship was never fully seen in public view, enough NBA sources have reported the problems brewing.  With the early exit this year in the playoffs, it was inevitable.  Tom Thibodeau has been fired by the Chicago Bulls.

The news is just breaking… more details will be coming.  I’m not happy about it.  I really don’t care what the relationship was between coach and GM; they were supposed to make this work.  So it didn’t work, and Thibs is gone.  I guess it’s his own damn fault.

Maybe Thibs is just the wrong coach for this era.  For this era of NBA players, that want to take a game off every other week… that try to coast during the regular season… that would rather chuck up 30 shots per game vs focusing on their defense.  These players are not built from the same cloth as the guys in the previous eras.  Thibs was a very demanding coach.  He did not accept anything less than 110% effort.  He had HIS guys and he relied heavily on them.  He knew playing defense is the key to winning, but the offense never came around on a consistent basis.  So this is all Thibs fault, you see?

Who will be his replacement?  Name me another coach that we can replace him with that will be better than him.  Phil Jackson isn’t coming down Madison any time soon.  Poppovich isn’t leaving the Spurs.  I think Doc Rivers is a good coach, he’s from Chicago, but his team choked more brutally than the Bulls did.  Please don’t tell me Fred Hoiberg.  We don’t want to see Tim Floyd 2.0.  We bringing back Scott Skiles… Vinny Del Negro?  WHO is a better person to coach this Bulls team than Thibs?  Please give me your candidates in the comment section, because I can’t think of anybody better.

So we have to start somewhere.  Somebody will be the coach of this team, that’s for sure.  Maybe it’s the team that’s the problem…  Maybe it’s the fact that THIS Bulls team never played more than about a quarter of the season together.  Is that enough for a team to gel and get to championship quality?  Maybe the injuries over the years have taken its toll?  That’s pretty obvious, and please don’t tell me you blame Thibs for that.  I wonder how the Thibs guys will respond…. Butler, Noah, Taj.  Rose should be thankful for Thibs too… He stood behind him through all the crap.  He never blamed Derrick for anything.  Maybe that was part of his downfall too?

I’m just rambling now.  The more I type the more pissed I get.  The more pissed I get about THIS Bulls team not getting it done all these years.  The more pissed I get about the injuries that limited this team.  The more pissed I get about THIS year’s failure.  We missed out on our window… or did we?  Will a new coach come in and lead us to the promised land?  How will this Bulls team look next year?  There’s a whole lot of questions, and not many answers right now…

One thing is sure, Tom is gone.  I’m sure he’ll do fine elsewhere, or maybe not.  Maybe he’s just not built to cater to these primadonas in the NBA today.  Maybe he’d be a better college coach.  In fact, I KNOW he’d be a great college coach.  He’d be a great NBA coach too… for a team that wants to play for him.  The Bulls DID want to play for him, but there were too many other things going on, most prevalent being the injuries.  It was the tough luck Thibs Bulls.  Is that tough luck walking out the door with Thibs?

I guess the proof will be in the pudding.  Only time will tell… as usual.  I don’t like the move.  I think he was the scapegoat.  But isn’t that the way it always happens?  Although I figured it would happen one way or another, it still sucks to see it actually happen.  Good luck to Thibs in his next venture, and good luck to the Bulls…. they’ll need it, and not the tough variety either….  That tough guy just left.

Once again Bulls front office gets it wrong…sad to see him go. Trade Rose, Noah, and Butler now. Why not…do they think before they act? No wonder why MJ left so quick. Who is will to work with the Bulls now? Maybe Paxson will pull a Steve Kerr….Fred Hoiberg…Ha Ha ha!!!

Don’t like the move at all, but it was inevitable. Power struggle between garpax and thibs…thibs loses every time. Not sure who else can do better, but Jeff Van Gundy may be a candidate…better than the other options out there. Either way, the Bulls have work to do. Thibs was not the problem, but he took the fall. Let’s hope the Bulls get up!

He’s good in the NBA and always will be. Unfortunately the NBA only plays hard at the end of the year. His teams play hard all the time. The other teams have more got more gas in the tank and more talent at the end of the year. It sucks to see him go. He’d be a great college coach!

I remember in the late 90’s there was a coach who led his team to three straight finals appearances. During those appearances he delivered back to back titles in the Harris Bank League. He is retired now and enjoying life, but for a couple dollars and a new walker, I could see “Coach K” back on the sidelines. Great memories..
