What is it all about? Winning. I don’t mind the term “winning ugly” or maybe a quote from Al Davis “just win baby”. At the end of the day, when we look at the standings after Week 1, it will show that the Chicago Bears are 1-0. What a glorious win it was.
Of course, we’re Bears fans; we like defense… and boy did we get it. It started with the Special Teams and a blocked punt TD to get us on the board, more than offsetting the blunder by Velus Jones Jr on the kickoff which cost us 3 points. A sack and fumble followed; the topper was the pick six on a ball Levis should have never thrown… thank you! I was screaming my ass off. After giving up 17 points in the 1st half, the defense tightened the screws not allowing another point the whole game. 3 Cairo Santos field goals and a beautiful 2 point conversion… haha… was the extent of the offense on this day, but that’s OK. The Bears got their first win of the season 24-17 over the Titans at Soldier Field on Sunday afternoon.
The hype machine was rolling full speed, and for a while, it looked like the train would go off the tracks. Caleb Williams did not have a good day; he will get better… he said the same in his postgame press conference… I believe he will. Yet, on an NFL team, more than any other sport, a QB, more than any other position, is directly linked to the team’s wins and losses. Caleb Williams is 1-0; he better buy the defense and special teams dinner tonight. There were some nice moments, but overall, no bueno. The offensive line, which was my biggest concern coming into the season, will need to get better too. I like the whole “needing to get better” discussion after a win… This same performance will NOT be good enough next week at Houston; this performance WAS good enough for this Sunday though.
When we look around the NFL after all of Week 1’s results are final, we’ll gasp at some of the upsets we will surely see; thanks to the Bungles by the way for immediately ending our Circa Survivor… one less thing to worry about I guess. At the end of the day, this Bears win felt really damn good. The feelings, the conversations, and the next week until Game 2 would be completely different had this one turned out as an L. Instead, the week will start off right; it will be a Happy Bears Monday, and a great start to the week. Thanks boys.
Speaking of next week, the Texans were able to gut out a division victory on the road in Week 1; I don’t think they will be a flash in the pan. I think they’re definitely for real, and exactly a year ahead of where the Bears hope to be; much more to come on that game. But for now, let me bask in my glory… the Bears have won a game; we’re undefeated! The sky is the limit! Bear Down!!!
