Saturday come and Saturday go… Fantasy Football Drafts are three and done. Finally, I can move on with my life.
Yes, just like Dale in Step Brothers, I am the manager of a team, actually 3 of them… actually 5 of them if you count the two Fantasy Baseball teams; do I need to get a life? It’s fun though, and I eat this shit up… I have sports coming out of my ears, and sometimes, my ass. How time consuming is it to manage these teams? I don’t think that much. A daily check in for sure. What else are you going to be doing on your phone? Following politics? Looking at cooking videos? Mindlessly scrolling through your Twitter feed? For me, playing fantasy sports is like vegging out; sure, it takes a bit of thinking, but this type of thinking, for me, is like second hand… kind of like writing this blog… it don’t take much. I’m used to it. I know this shit. Am I good at it? Well, that’s debatable…
You see, I’ve been researching this stuff for months now. By stuff, I mean the NFL; fantasy is just part of it. I’ve been reading a ton of stuff about the teams across the board, again, for various reasons, such as betting on the games, the survivor pool, and yes, fantasy football; it’s all tied together, although you can certainly go down rabbit holes in each category. I feel like my knowledge of the NFL is at an all-time high; does that mean I will win all my bets? Does that mean I will win my fantasy football league? No; that doesn’t seem right.
I tell my son, whatever you get out of something, depends on the work you put into it… or something like that. You want to be good at basketball? How much do you practice? You want to do well on a test? How long did you study? So there should be some correlation between effort put in and results at the end of the day, in most cases. In this case though, well, who the hell knows.
This last draft was cake; it’s 8 teams… it’s our family league with my dad and all the kids… my team is absolutely loaded, but most of the teams are. It’s only 8 teams… and the rosters aren’t that deep! I can build a halfway decent team right this second with undrafted guys off the wire. It’s fun though… planning on getting a trophy where the names of the winners each year will be etched in. My son and I won the first year; our teams are split now… he’s officially graduated… haha.
Yes, in the league’s 4th year, will we have a new winner? So far, 3 different teams have taken home the title. Yahoo gave me a draft grade of C+… I swear if I listed my team right now, you’d be thrilled… haha. That’s why they play the games… About those games… Week 1 here yet?
