Thursday night brought the end of a perfect preseason for the Bears… and that’s that. What does an undefeated preseason mean? Nothing… it sure feels good though. Now, we wait for Week 1 vs the Titans; patience is a virtue.
The Bears and Chiefs met at Arrowhead in what could be a Super Bowl preview; yeah, I just said that. I don’t believe that, but hey, let me dream. If I clarify that statement with a Super Bowl preview over the next few years, then we’re talking. Surely, don’t think the Bears will use this undefeated preseason and Hard Knocks to catapult to the Super Bowl, but… I do have them with 10 wins; I do have them in the playoffs. I don’t think I’m being too much of a homer, right? Of course, it’s more than just the preseason and Hard Knocks that have bumped the Bears up a notch.
For all the talk about Caleb Williams, and yeah, he does look kind of legit, and all the weapons around him, and yeah, we do have weapons, it’s the other side of the ball that has me feeling good. Not only have the Bears surrounded our rookie QB with weapons, but we’re fielding a solid ass defense. If the Bears can pick up where they left off last year on the defensive side of the ball, that could certainly take some pressure off Caleb and the offense. Add in a decent running attack, and… let’s not put too much on the shoulders of the rookie, potential franchise, QB. We’ve seen he can make plays; we’ve had QBs who could make plays before too… just not consistent. But man, the way he throws that ball down the field… it’s exciting. Now, as long as he has time to throw the ball…
This is my main area of concern heading into the season. How is the offensive line going to hold up? That’s a pretty important question. Sure, the weapons, the defense… all good for a rookie QB, but the line… yeah, that’s kind of important too. What have we done there? The Bears have made a couple pickups recently on defense; I’m hoping they add some depth to the O-line between now and Week 1. The more the merrier as the Bears try to find the best combination of lineman to protect the franchise. Good luck to us.
It feels good; I’m excited. It’s going to be hard to wait until the games that mean something kick off on Sunday September 8th. The Titans scare me… I think they’re going to be better than people expect. With the hype train moving at full speed, an undefeated preseason, Hard Knocks… there have been too many seasons where I was over the top hyped up and fell flat on my face after a shitty Week 1 performance from our boys… like last year for example. Still, am I supposed to NOT get hyped up because of this? Well… I can’t do that; I’m hyped up. Whatever happens happens. The countdown to the regular season is officially on. Bear Down!
