August 3, 2024: Hall of Fame Day

Saturday was a special day for the Chicago Bears; we added to our franchise leading total of Hall of Famers. Devin Hester & Steve McMichael were inducted on Hall of Fame Day 2024; even Julius Peppers who spent a few good years here made it in on this day. All very deserving; it was a very cool day.

Hall of Fame week started earlier this week with the Hall of Fame game; this was the first game I bet on in about 6 weeks… of course I took the Bears. I was a little pissed when I heard the starters not playing, but the bet had already been placed, and if you look at the final score, the Bears won… but I didn’t. Since the game got called in the 3rd quarter, it wasn’t an official game, so all bets were returned… sucks. Still, a nice way to start the week that would be Chicago-centric with a Bears W. Chris Berman noted how many Bears fans were there on Saturday; are we in Chicago or what?

I didn’t watch most of it, but went back and checked out a bunch of stuff. The coolest part was that so many of their teammates were there with them for this special day. It was sad to see Mongo in his current condition, light years away from how he was on the field during his playing days. Although it’s great to see him receive this special honor, I wish he was in better health, for his wild and crazy ass to really enjoy it. On the other hand, Devin Hester looked great, good enough to get back on that field and take another one back to the house. You never wanted to miss a kickoff or punt when Hester was back returning… Even Julius Peppers, best known in my mind for the big hit on Aaron Rodgers (which unfortunately was called a personal foul), even shouted out MJ… who was also in the crowd, really making this a Chicago day. When will I take my son to Canton for the first time?

The last 2 Bears that were inducted prior to this day were Jimbo Covert, who was with Mongo on his day, and Ed Sprinkle 4 years ago. Before them, it was Urlacher in 2018. Before him, Dent in 2011, who was also there with Mongo on his day. Mongo makes the 4th defensive guy to make the HOF from that best defense of all time, the 85 Bears, along with Dent, Hampton, and Singletary (they were both there with Mongo too). Covert and of course, Sweetness, make 6 guys from the Bears one and only Super Bowl team thus far; anybody else deserving? How about Lovie’s (who was in the house on Saturday) guys? Peanut, Briggs? They were both excellent. So far only Urlacher and Hester. Maybe Kreutz?

We have been lucky to have so many great Bears players over the years; now, we need some more Super Bowls. Yes, 9 total NFL championships is good for 2nd best of all time, but 1 Super Bowl… leaves something to be desired from the most recent versions of the franchise; more to come on that… hopefully soon. But for today, it’s a celebration bitches. DA Bears, Bear Down, and all that. There’s a reason why there were so many Bears fans in Canton this weekend; there’s a reason why so many teammates were there for the guys getting honored. It’s a Bears thing… next up, Hard Knocks and the start of another season where the Bears will look for that 2nd Super Bowl trophy. Soon, very soon… Bear Down!
