If you fly enough, you know some of the airport abbreviations. MDW is Midway; ORD is O’Hare. LAX is Los Angeles International Airport. I got a late start to my trip on Monday. We boarded on time and everything was looking good. I settled into my window seat and fell right asleep; I typically do fall asleep before the plane even takes off. This time though, when I woke up, I looked out the window… and we were still on the ground; wtf?!?! I checked my watch and it was an hour later; great! Then I heard the airplane PA say we were heading back to the gate for a problem; thankfully it was only a circuit related to the flush motor with the bathrooms. We turned back around shortly after and headed to the runway, where we waited some more. Almost 2 hours later, we were finally in the air, except this time, I couldn’t fall asleep. So, I checked the airport entertainment and found a movie that I had never seen before. I spent the next 2 plus hours watching Wall Street for the first time. Yes, Gordon Gekko, greed is good, money never sleeps Wall Street; I really enjoyed it. After that, I watched the pilot of Breaking Bad; talk about bringing back some memories. Then it was announced we would be descending into Los Angeles… finally made it.
Tuesday was the main event; we had a bunch of people coming out to tour the site, which was the reason I was there. There was a group of 11 people; it went really well. We’re small but mighty in LA, at least that’s how we talked about us; it is true though. With major growth on the horizon, we need to be ready to ride… and we are. With all the experience we have, we’re ready to take on the new business, aided by some new blood, equipment, and a larger home. It’s finally happening… I made comments in the meeting that Chicago was the biggest site… for now. LA is positioned to grow in a big way… maybe not to the size of Chicago, but… you never know. I know we’re ready to rock.
After a long day at work, I headed back to the hotel; I was staying downtown LA. I had a little less than an hour before I’d have to drive back to LAX; this time to pickup my wife and son; their flight was on time. Thankfully, so was I. Traffic heading towards the airport wasn’t horrible; I made it just in time to find parking and wait for them inside the airport; I was happy to see them. My wife was THE reason I moved to LA all those years ago, and my son is part of the result of our reuniting. Now, we’re all back in LA together, ready to have a good time. I wasn’t done with work; I would spend another day there on Wednesday as they ran around town, and some more time on Friday. After grabbing some fish & shrimp tacos, and a quick drive through Hollywood, we all headed back to the hotel and piled into the small room together; it’s all good…
