I don’t like parlays; I think they’re sucker bets. That’s not to say I’ve never played them; I hit a few. One comes to mind when I was in Vegas back in the day. It was a 3 team College Football Parlay; I remember one of the teams was North Carolina… go figure. If I recall correctly, it was a $100 parlay that paid me over $700; I’m sure I dropped it back at the blackjack table. It’s nice when one of those come in, but I don’t know about you… I seem to always have come up 1 win short, which makes me think that straight wagers are the way to go. If I win 2 out of 3 on the parlay, I lose money. If I win 2 out of 3 straight bets, I win money. It’s really that simple for me.
It’s been kind of dead lately on the betting front. I haven’t placed one wager since the end of the Stanley Cup Finals. Yeah, crazy. Last year at this point, I was firing fast and furious on baseball; haven’t got into as much this time around. Instead, I’ve been zoning in on football already; in the middle of my 2nd season preview magazine. I’m ready to jump on football season, which is the one season where I WILL bet on the preseason. I’ve made out pretty well in previous NFL preseasons, only to give it back during the season… haha. QB depth is one of the keys to preseason betting IMO; much more to come on that. I have been looking again lately, seeing which things I would have bet on… like various baseball games, Wimbledon, the HR Derby, the All Star game… I’m glad I haven’t pulled the trigger. Still not ready to jump back in. I’m just happy to be positive after 18 months; up 46 units isn’t a bad place to be.
My good friend has been firing away though, and he said he’s finally in the positive! That’s great. Well, hitting the parlay on the All Star game on Tuesday night certainly improved his standing. He played a 7 teamer… calling for hits from Shohei, Trea Turner, Ketel Marte, Juan Soto, and Marcus Semien… plus over 7.5 runs… plus an AL win. His $10 wager paid him $1,307.83 when Reynolds struck out to end the game. Boo ya! That’s what I’m talking about.
The MLB season will resume on Friday. Justin Steele at home against the Dbacks looks juicy… haha. Will I continue to wait until football season, or will I jump back in with some baseball action? I had a whole spreadsheet tracking MLB line movements & percentages last year; maybe start plugging some numbers in there? Yeah, it sounds good, but honestly, just don’t have the time right now. I’m just glad I carved out the time to finally be caught up on this here thing. Once I hit “publish”, I will finally be caught up to current day. Whew!
