The family trip to the Dominican had been planned for a while. My wife’s family heads down every year; we accompanied them one time back 9 years ago. It was a blast; it was one of my favorite vacations. It’s not that type of vacation where you try to see everything, do this, do that, run here, run there… no, this one, is the exact opposite, and I love it. Of course, with other vacations over the years, we can’t always head down there, but this year… the special birthday year that we’re celebrating by taking as many trips as we can, we were in. My wife wanted to be down there with her family in commemoration of this milestone year; I was all in of course. The only thing that could conflict, and did conflict, was my son’s playoff run; got to chalk it up.

After winning Saturday, we advanced to the 2nd round against the first place team. One of the reasons I chose to pitch my son in the first game, besides the fact that he’s a top 2-3 pitcher on the team, was that we were not going to be there Sunday; save the other two best pitchers for that game. As we landed in the DR, I got a text from the other coach saying 11-1… our faces dropped. What? How? How did our best pitcher give up 11 runs? How long was he in for? This sucks. Well, it turns out that when he sent me that message, he meant their record was 11-1… NOT the score of the game. Whew! OK, what WAS the score of the game? Well, the internet wasn’t that great down there, and I couldn’t check the Game Changer app. I guess we’ll have to wait. We found out the result later that day. It was the same 15-4 score. This time… we won again!!! Wow! We were so happy. What this meant was that we would be playing in the semifinals next Saturday, one win away from the championship series. Stay tuned.

As for us, we were beginning our week long island vacation. This was some great news to get, as we headed to the pool for the first time. As soon as we got in, it started coming down… should we get out of the pool? Should we stay in? We didn’t see any lightning… I guess we’re staying in. It was cool to be in the pool with the rain pouring down on our heads. It reminded me of the time my brother came and saw me in California. We headed to Zuma Beach, playing in the waves, as the rain poured down on us; it was awesome. This was awesome. Almost every day this week, the rain would come down for about 15-20 minutes. Other than that? Mid 80s, sun blaring, with the humidity hitting you right in the face… bring it on! Time for a little vacay…
