It ain’t cool to kick somebody when they’re down, right? Well… I would agree normally. I do remember a brawl outside Excalibur back in the day when I did exactly that. We stumbled out of there, a bunch of us, feeling pretty good. I’m never one to go looking for trouble, but sometimes it finds you. Ran into some other guys, feeling good, looking for a little trouble. Not sure exactly how it all started, but there was a melee in the middle of the street. I was trying to get my guys out of there; no need for this BS. Then I saw one of my friends get cheapshotted from behind… f that. As I made my way over there, the dude that did the deed was on the floor… “down” if you may. I kicked him in the face. OK… let’s get out of here. As we tried to leave, we weren’t allowed. I was thrown in the back of a paddy wagon with my brother and one of my friends; thankfully, the rest of us “got away”. We spent the rest of the night in the slammer; we did get out earlier than my other buddy… but we waited for him. My poor blue dress shirt, covered with blood… Anyways, I think I can get an exception for that particular “kicking when down”…
When somebody is in a vulnerable position and you want to take advantage of that… nah, that ain’t cool. I even felt a little bad watching the Cubs come back and beat the Sox on Tuesday night in Wrigley. The Sox entered the first game of this year’s “crosstown series” having lost 11 in a row; they’re one of, if not, THE worst team in baseball… poor suckers. They are from Chicago after all… I don’t want them to be THAT bad… haha. Yet, when the Sox took a 5-0 lead over us with our stud Imanaga, I started getting pissed… more so at the Cubs than anything. We can’t even beat the Sox… over the past 30 or so days, unfortunately, our records have been very similar. When the Cubs and Sox get together, you can typically throw out the records; this is what we were witnessing on this evening. But it had only just begun…
The Cubs made their way back, and in the bottom of the 8th, still down 1 thanks to a Luis Robert Jr home run (only 27 more to win my over HR bet for him), Ian Happ delivered a 2-RBI double to give the Cubs the lead. Man, that dude on the mound for the Sox looked like he was stressing the F out; Leasure… no P in front of his name on this night. In the midst of my celebration, I did feel a little bad though… watching him give it up… watching the Sox lose another… 12 in a row. Well, maybe they can start winning AFTER the next game against the Cubs; I do need them to win a bunch more games to win my over the season win total for them… if it was a physical ticket, I probably would have torn it up already.
But yes, another cool chapter in the Cubs Sox battles; there have been plenty of those over the years. For those who have never been to one of those games, there IS a little something extra going on… for both teams. Yes, when one or the other is good, maybe a little less… just because there are hopefully BIGGER games coming later in the season, like the playoffs; remember those? I know one team will not sniff those this year; how about the other? Go Cubs.
