May 16, 2024: Can’t Resist

OK, I can’t resist. Talking about the schedule release, thinking about this next year for the Bears… it’s got me excited. Screw it. I’m going to go ahead and make my picks game by game. Usually I’m way off, so I feel absolutely no pressure… haha. Here we go:

Week 1 vs Titans: WIN 23-14

Everybody will be expecting the world from Caleb Williams; this will not change, this year, next year, the following year… he’ll need to deliver a Super Bowl to live up to his hype. Not this year, but soon… He’ll throw his first career TD pass to Cole Kmet as the Bears start the season 1-0. It’s the defense that plays extremely well in this one, holding the Titans to 14 points. And we’ve only just begun…

Week 2 at Texans: LOSS 27-14

A Sunday night affair for our first road game of the year? Yep. The upstart Texans and their franchise QB get the W, as Caleb struggles a bit. You see, Caleb will be the center of attention, win or lose, like it or not. He does get his 2nd career TD pass to Keenan Allen, but holding on to the ball too long, throwing INTs… we’ve seen this movie before. Patience Danielson…

Week 3 at Colts: WIN 38-35

A possible road game for my son and I??? I’ve been to that stadium before but NOT to see the Bears play; this would be cool, especially if it plays out this way. An absolute shootout ensues, and Caleb Williams arrives with 4 TD passes, leading the Bears past the Colts in a thriller. The Bears, winning a shootout? Somebody pinch me.

Week 4 vs Rams: LOSS 24-21

It’s a week to week league, and after Caleb was crowned, he comes back to earth… the Bears come back to earth and lose a game most would have penciled in a W. This league ain’t easy; there are no freebies. The focus has to be there every single week. Still, 2-2 ain’t that bad so far, right?

Week 5 vs Panthers: WIN 28-17

2-2 isn’t so bad when you have the Panthers visiting the following week. Last year’s Thursday night game was an ugly slug fest; this one not so much. The Bears will jump out early, and hold on, despite a late TD from Carolina. Bryce Young HAS to be better this year, right? Not our problem, and not in this one. Bears win; let’s go.

Week 6 at Jaguars (in London): WIN 35-27

Across the pond we go… bringing the Bears world-wide appeal with us. I’d love to go to this game; family vacation?!?! Imagine. Anyways, although the NFL has been there quite often, it’s always good to put on a show, and Caleb and Trevor Lawrence do exactly that, with the Bears, again, coming out on top in a shootout; what’s happening to the defense though? They’ll figure it out, hopefully; if not, we got the fire power to still make things interesting.

OK, let’s stop here for now… we’re at the bye week in Week 7, and the Bears are 4-2. I’d definitely take that. Haven’t played one division game yet, which is important to note, especially when 2 of the 3 teams will be predicted to be better than you. See you soon Week 8; still waiting for that first division tilt. Bear Down!
