Time flies when you’re having fun… It was 10 years ago, that I posted my very first blog. If you don’t remember it (ha!), here it is:
So here we sit, 10 years later, and what has changed?
In the past 3,650 days or so, Chicago has brought home 2 championships. Although I wasn’t blogging for the 2010 and 2013 Stanley Cup runs, I did capture the 2015 Blackhawks run to their 3rd Stanley Cup in 6 years. That was a lot of fun. Of course, in 2016… whew… the world turned upside down, and the Cubs, yes, the Chicago Cubs, finally did it; it was the last of my teams to win a championship in my lifetime. I had now completed the title cycle if you may. As far as the Bulls and Bears go (and White Sox), well… what has really changed in 10 years? Many coaches and players, but at the end of the day, they remain at 6 and 9 (and 3) championships respectively. Will one (or both) of them win something in the next 10 years? Am I going to stick around another decade?
Well, certainly plan to be on this earth for another ten, but to keep documenting my ride through the Chicago sports landscape… no plans to stop any time soon. If I didn’t stop now, then when would I? Not saying the day couldn’t come, just saying that this here blog is a lot more than just talking about my teams. It may seem like that most of the time, but for me, it’s more about writing, which I love to do, and therapy, which I definitely need. If not for the crazy roller coaster ride that my teams put me through, that I am more than willing to keep riding, but for life too; life recently has poked its head out and bit me pretty hard.
This blog is part of my daily routine, although I certainly fall behind from time to time; I’m almost caught up this time… finally. I still enjoy it. It’s part of my ME time, and a lot more constructive than sitting on the toilet, well, at least I think so, although I do get some serious fantasy football/baseball stuff done during that time. Of course, my venture into gambling has become part of this as well. Talking through that journey here is helpful as well. You see, we used to have a lot more people in the office 10 years ago that I’d talk about all this shit with, and although there are still a few, including my brother, I need more… there’s never too much Chicago sports, fantasy, gambling, to talk about… I can’t get enough, so yeah, this helps. This has helped me in the past couple weeks, in ways that I never hoped it would; I have an outlet for that too, although I guess I could just write it in some journal or something… anyways.
Happy Anniversary to me! Thanks for reading, today, yesterday, tomorrow, and/or any other days you choose to stop by; we’re always here.
