What better place to be on our Lucky 13th wedding anniversary than Las Vegas! You see, I had a good reason for falling behind on this here thing, my 4th (?) career… haha. Yeah, the focus would be on my wife for OUR day, for our trip together. That would be easy right? Surely there would be no distractions in the center of the gambling universe… haha.
My 3rd career would have to take a backseat. For starters, Draft Kings isn’t legal in Las Vegas; yeah, for real! In the place where it all started, I would be unable to access my DK account for any betting. I’d have to do it the “old fashioned way” and place a bet at the book in the casino in person; we’d get there. I locked a handful of bets before we left; remind me to not bet a lot on March Madness going forward… I bet on way too many games, and the results were not so great. I did have NC State in the final game on Sunday which was nice. We watched a little bit of the games here and there as we made our way around the Strip. But Sunday night, we would be heading downtown.
I remember downtown as being not so nice… I remember taking the picture with the $1 million dollars in cash with my friends on maybe my 2nd trip ever there. Now we’re talking about 25 or so years ago… so yeah, a lot has changed. We’ve visited downtown the last couple years with my son, and it is a lot nicer. I still like the old casinos down there, although not like our luck changed that much in them… Of course the new kid on the block is the Circa; my wife and I could finally go inside, since it’s 21 and over only. It was really sharp. My favorite part was the VSIN studio that was located in the casino right next to the sportsbook. It’s where my show is filmed every morning; awesome! I think my wife’s favorite part was Vegas Vickie. Yeah, I recognized that neon sign right away; it used to sit in front of Glitter Gulch, a gentleman’s club that used to reside downtown. I remember the girls that used to be standing out in front; my wife and I made our way inside on one of our trips… That place is long gone, but the sign hangs inside Circa… I like the nod to old school Vegas, and, after visiting the gift shop, found a t-shirt with her on there for my wife… big time score!
The main purpose to heading downtown was our anniversary dinner at Oscar’s. We had been there before; it was really nice, again. Plenty of options for dinner in Vegas; plenty of choices for steak. This place is vintage Vegas, and for a steakhouse, really reasonably priced, although I did tell my wife we weren’t going to worry about finances until we returned… haha. It was a nice concept, that didn’t necessarily match up with reality. However, the reality was… it was just my wife and I in Vegas together. I had to pinch myself a few times. Again, it really didn’t matter what we did, where we went, if we won money or if we lost money, it was my wife and I on vacation together! It had been a while, and not sure the next time this will happen, so… we need to enjoy the hell out of this… we did! Happy Vegas-Versary to us!
