Call it a Super Bowl hangover, but after losing some serious units on the “big game”, I bounced back with a horrible week of betting, losing money in the NHL, College Basketball, and even my money maker, the NBA. I just couldn’t get going; probably should have took a week off. It was one of those weeks where it was tough to pick one winner. Well, time to put that week in the rear view…
On Monday, I slowly entered the new week; I took Iowa State +9 vs Houston. I watched a lot of the game; it was hovering around that number most of the game. Back and forth they went, but Iowa State could never get over the hump. As the game wound down, Houston secured the W, but by how many points??? Up by 10 points late, Iowa State went to the line; the kid made both free throws, but… still about 7 seconds left. They didn’t foul! Cha-ching… a good way to start the new week. Let’s get it going. Then came Tuesday night… it ended up being one of those nights you want to duplicate again and again.
I do my research for the night’s action the night before; I notate my leans. Sometimes I play them all; sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I just pick a couple. As I looked at the 9 games I liked on Tuesday night, I thought… am I really going to play all these? Sure, why not. My instinct was correct in this case; love it when that happens. It started off with some NHL action; I had the Rangers, Islanders, and Senators. The Rangers held the lead the whole game pretty much and cashed. The Islanders held the lead for most of the game until the Pens tied it up; it went to OT. Islanders pulled it out. And the Senators… which turned out to be my only loss of the night, were down 2 goals until the 3rd when they tied it up. This game went to OT too, but not the result I wanted. Now to the court…
Liked a lot of college games, starting with Villanova over Butler; easy cover. Then came a bunch of ranked plays. Creighton over UCONN was pretty sweet. BYU over Baylor, check. Utah State over San Diego State, check. TCU covering against Texas Tech, nice! To finish off the evening, had San Francisco to cover against St. Mary’s, and that hit as well. An 8-1 night was just what the doctor ordered.
When you go through a losing streak, you think about stopping; why am I doing this? An important thing is being able to get through the down streaks… figuring out how to avoid them would be ideal, but most likely, they will happen; how do you get through them? That is the critical answer. You stick to what you think should work. Sure, I don’t have my system in place yet; that takes time, and well, yeah… not much time, but… something is working. I’m not quite back where I was pre-Super Bowl, but if I can keep this up… I can pass that point, and head to the next tier. Nights like this are like those great golf shots you have once in a while… it keeps you coming back. Time for Wednesday night’s action. Keep grinding.
