May 4, 2015: Shining Stars

It’s great to see your best players play their best at the most important times.  This is why this Blackhawks team is so special.  They’re not only loaded, with a ton of depth, with great players; these “great” players, the stars, shine the brightest during the Stanley Cup playoffs.  I guess that’s why we already have 2 Cups; I guess that’s why we have as good a shot as any to get #3.

Kane, Toews, Sharp… the 3 goal scorers on Sunday night at the UC.  Does it really suprise anyone at this point?  I mean, everybody goes through their struggles, so it’s nice to have a deep team; it’s nice to have a team with multiple stars, but… it’s the usual suspects most of the time.  It’s these guys that continue to step up and carry this team.  I guess I should throw one more name in there with his performance last night.

Corey Crawford, the much maligned goaltender over the years, played a big game.  He has played outstanding all season.  He had his struggles last series, and was rightfully pulled; he’s been rightfully reinserted as the starter.  The thing that pisses everybody off ths most is the easy goals he gives up.  Last night, he had one of those; you know, one of those shots that you and me could have stopped.  But then he goes on and makes saves that none of us could even dream of making, and few NHL goalies can make.  The lapses are still frustrating, but the overall performance is great.  He has become one of the stars on this team, which is critical, because you need solid goalie play if you want to think about the Cup.  The Blackhawks have that too.

It’s hard not to feel confident… to feel like world beaters when you have this team.  I felt like that last year…  The important thing is to stay focused, and continue to play your best for 60 minutes a night.  The Hawks have still had their lapses, which worries me.  So far, they haven’t come back to bite us.  Crawford still gives up those soft goals; they haven’t hurt us yet either.  The one thing that has carried the Hawks is the play of their stars.

It’s those shining stars that make up for all the defensive lapses, all the mistakes, all the soft goals given up.  It’s the core, the players who will be shown before games decades from now in the Hawks pre-game festivities.  It’s these guys, some of them, who will have their numbers forever remembered by hanging them in the UC.  I said it before, and I’ll say it again… we are very lucky right now to have this team.  6 down, 10 to go.  Go Hawks!

Lets get off Crawford already. What are we looking for 100%, all shut outs?? The saves he made in the 2nd were ridiculously good and Minnesota easily could have been winning. He gave up one goal. Soft hard, medium, or whatever. He does enough to win for the Hawks on a consistent basis.
There is a salary cap and most of the money for the hawks is on the goal scorers and Kieth . Crawford is 7th, middle of the pack for the top 15 goaltenders at $6 million. He won a cup, you get PAID for it if the timing is right! It’s the most he’s probably ever going to make. How about all those free agents we cried about losing after 2010? They all got paid by other teams and most went on to be average or disappear entirely.
    HAWKS WIN!!!

Hawks did what they had to do…win games 1&2. If they can win a game in minny, this series should be over. Kane has rounded right back into form after his injury. Toews and his line is trouble every time they are on the ice, including shorthanded. The defensive lapses and crow’s soft goal giveups worry me, along with the lack of a power play. If crow plays like he did last night, there is no question we can deal with a soft goal here or there. He doesn’t have to be perfect with the offensive weapons the Hawks have. Stay focused boys and get a game or both in minny! GO HAWKS!!!
