May 1, 2015: May Day

Think I heard this call coming from the Bradley Center on Thursday night.  The Bulls finally played to their potential and absolutely destroyed the Bucks by 54 points.

It was nice to see. It was nice to give my blood pressure a rest for a game.  It was nice to watch the Bulls play like I know they can. It was nice to slaughter a team that was long overdue for a beating.

The Bulls will not have the luxury of taking any more games off and getting away with it.  It’s time to bring this effort every game.  It’s amazing to see how it could all come together for a game.

This one was over early and now the matchup we’ve all been waiting for is here.  Bulls cavs game 1 Monday night in Cleveland.

I’m sure Cleveland will still be favored, and that’s ok.  Beating Lebron will not be easy, but if it’s gonna happen, you have to think this is the year.

The Bulls have been eliminated by LBJ 3 separate times. The first time coming in 2010: Drose’s 2nd year and Vinny Del Negro’s last year as coach.  The Bulls finished .500 for the 2nd straight year.  After giving the #1 seed Celtics all they could handle the year before, it was the #1 seed Cavs led by LBJ that ended our season this time. We met him again, this time with the Heat the following year. In Thibs first year, the Bulls finished with the best record in the East. They lost to the Heat in the conference finals.  We were primed for that rematch the following year when Rose went down. We did get that rematch the next year after getting by Brooklyn in the first round, but again without our superstar.  Last year, again without our best player, we bowed out to the Wiz, who are still alive this year.

It’s been a long time coming. To finally meet again, and this time seasoned and healthy. Personally, I’ve waited for this day for what seems like forever.  I’ve waited for another chance to knock off the self proclaimed king. We never did get another chance against him and the Heat, so it has to be this way.  It has to be against him and the Cavs. So be it.  The hate is still there. It’s going to come to the surface that first tip off.

All time playoff history is definitely on the Bulls side. That one loss I mentioned above was the only one ever vs Cleveland in the post season.  The Bulls have ended their season 5 separate times. 1988 was the first time and then there was 1989 and The Shot. We picked it up again in 3 consecutive seasons in 1992, 1993 (another series ending shot vs Cleveland for MJ), and 1994 without Jordan. We pretty much owned them. It will be nice to have those skeletons rattling in the Cavs closet. Maybe one of our current backcourt starters can hit some daggers, or maybe Lebum tries to get back at us for those years. Being from Ohio, he probably cried many tears as MJ broke his city’s heart over and over again.

Well, it all starts Monday. Bears draft, Blackhawks, and baseball to talk about until then. Until then, I get mentally prepared for the Bulls next step; I think I’ll need to get my son some earmuffs. Happy May Day!
