January 5, 2024: Week 18 Preview Bears at Packers

posted in: Bears | 0

When the schedule was announced, and we saw this game slotted in Week 18, we thought, or at least I thought, maybe this would have a little more juice, than just the normal Bears Packers hate fest; maybe this game would be for a playoff spot. Well, I was half right. A win, and the Packers are in the playoffs; unfortunately, I cannot say the same for us. The Bears will come up just short of the playoffs either way. I could sit here and rehash the 3 games we should have won, you know, leading by double digits in the 4th quarter is typically a good spot to be in, but we can categorize that in the “paying dues/learning to win” category. Just because the Bears will miss the postseason again regardless of the result in this Week 18 tilt, doesn’t mean this game is meaningless…

First off, it’s Bears Packers; that right there carries enough weight, no matter what each team is doing. Yes, it’s a lot more fun when the teams are playing well, but the Bears haven’t exactly kept up their side of the bargain in recent history, outside of a few years under Lovie and the one under Nagy. Yes, we all know it’s been lopsided the Packers way, and yes, we all thought, or at least I thought, that would turn in what was the first game of the season, vs the Cheesedicks without a HOF QB at the helm; talk about a horrible way to start the season. It was bad, really bad; it took time for the Bears to recover from it… a win against the Packers in this one, will complete my recovery. We’ve had to wait 17 weeks for payback… it’s time.

And you know what, the Bears are actually playing good ball; the defense has been especially good… kind of sucks that Jaylon Johnson, our All Pro CB that hopefully we sign to an extension, will probably miss this one. That concerns me… a bit. Yet, I love the spot for our boys. No pressure. Yes, there is the rivalry pressure that does exist, but all the pressure will be on the shoulders of the young Packers and their QB Jordan Love; they need to win to get into the postseason. Well, I think they could still back door it with multiple dominoes falling their way, but not likely. They need this one, and we’re standing in their way. Like the Lions last year, a win like this could propel us into the offseason, and prep us for a much more meaningful season next year… besides, you know, kicking their ass and ending their season and all…

Final Score Prediction: Bears 27 Packers 17

Ace in the Hole: Bears defense… 5 sacks, 3 turnovers, and 1 TD

The Bears are one win away from making this season a moderate success. You could say more than doubling our win total from a year ago, going from 3 to 7 wins is enough; their grade is sitting at a C right now. If they win this game, I’ll be bumping it up to a B. Heading into another critical offseason, it would be really, really nice to end with a signature win like this against the you know whos. Bear TF Down!!!
