How can I have attended a Bulls game in person and not have talked about it? That’s a great question. Well, we had just got back into town, I was off work the whole week, we were getting ready for Thanksgiving, I was catching up on my blog… these are all true. You know what else is true? The Bulls fricking suck. The game we went to was Monday night vs the Miami Heat; the Bulls lost by 18 points. Happy times…
We like going to Bulls games. My son loves it, although he loves going to any sporting event. My wife though… this is the one sporting event that she really enjoys. She loves going to watch the Bulls play. I just hate that they suck right now. I’m up for any Chicago sports game at any time, but man… spending my hard earned cash to go see a team that sucks… I know that one good thing when my teams suck is that the ticket prices go down, well… yes, that will make me feel better. But for this game against the Heat, we paid premium bucks to sit close; there was an ulterior motive…
The Miami Heat drafted our favorite college basketball player. Yes, we have been following Jaime Jaquez from UCLA pretty closely over the last few years. Remember, UCLA is our adopted college basketball team; I think we can claim them though… we did live out in LA for a minute. I still root for the local teams of course, but yeah, when it comes to college bball, UCLA is our squad. Of course, my wife wanting my son to go to college there doesn’t hurt either… haha. That would be pretty cool though! So yeah, the whole plan was to sit down in the 100 level so we could try to get an autograph from him; it didn’t go as planned. When we arrived, about an hour before the game, we went down by the visitor’s bench… right by where they go into the locker room. The Heat were on the floor shooting around, except no Jaquez… When I asked one of the other guys standing there, he said that both Jaquez and Butler were already out there, and went back in already. My son had his UCLA hat on, with his Bulls 21 Butler jersey… oh well. It would have worked out perfectly, because as the other guys came off the court, they were signing. Kyle Lowry signed a few things, but this kid Highsmith… man, he was signing everything. Much respect to him; it doesn’t take much to make some kids’ day, let me tell you. My son did get to shake hands with a bunch of people, but no Jaquez; back to our seats.
My wife and I actually showed up on the big screen; that was pretty cool. Then we had to sit through the Bulls getting their ass kicked; that was not pretty cool. More about the Bulls later, but… fast forward until the end of the game. We walked back down there with about 2 minutes left, hoping to get an autograph as the players left the floor after the buzzer sounded. The horn sounded and the guys began to walk off the court. We were watching Jaquez; he threw his headband into the crowd, then he came towards us. My son held his UCLA hat out, and he grabbed it! He signed that bad boy, and, and, I actually took a good picture of the proceedings; jackpot baby! All of a sudden, the money I spent on our 3 tickets was completely worth it… haha. I told my son don’t get used to this though… I’m not spending good money on any more Bulls tickets this year. We’ll go to more games, but… we’ll be up in the 300 level, where the true fans are, paying half of face value to go watch this Bulls team play. But yeah, it worked out. Thanks Jaime!
