Let me start off by saying I was thankful I didn’t get to watch the whole Bears game on Sunday in Detroit. Yes, our weekend trip down to Florida helped achieve this, although… someone did bring their phone and NFL package to the party; he had his headphones in, and was watching the Bears. I spent a little time watching over his shoulder, including the very end of the game… ugh! I actually was talking to another one of my wife’s family members this weekend, and found out how die-hard of a Bears fan he is; love it! He’s been down in Florida for many, many years after moving from Chicago, but he’s still a big-time Bears fan. Once we were able to have a conversation about the OL depth, I knew he knew his stuff. Told him come to Chicago, and we’ll head to a game. Maybe one day…
As for the Bears game… man, I was all over this one. My best bet of the weekend was the Bears plus the points, and honestly, my ML bet should have hit too. What a brutal way to blow that game. As I was updating folks at the party, the Bears were 9 points up mid 4th quarter. This one should have been over, but… this is the Bears, and honestly, and maybe obviously, they just do not know how to close out a game; they have not learned how to win games, which besides Fields development, which took a positive step for the most part in this one, has not been achieved. Yes, they still have time to figure this out… a little bit… but man, it’s been tough sledding. And yes, Fields did have the fumble at the end, which we’ve seen before, and almost turned out to be a horrible beat on the spread (thanks to the Bears guy for kicking it out of the end zone!), but at this point, you have to look at the coaching, right? I know there have been many calling for Eberflus’ head all year; I haven’t been. You can’t blame him for last year; he did what he was supposed to do… get that #1 overall pick. This year though… there have been injuries, and certainly some problems in Halas Hall with the coaching staff, but… Eberflus has to be part of this equation that doesn’t work when it comes to the Bears closing games; he HAS to be…
All of this being said, and since I didn’t watch the game, don’t really have much more to say about THIS game, I do like the Bears going forward, especially next week on Monday night in Minnesota, but… I did like the Bears before against Minnesota, and took an emotional and financial hit there. We’ll see… like I said, glad I didn’t watch this game, because I was back on the hook… and the line was set… but, I avoided the “sinker” and the real, true gut punch because I wasn’t sitting there watching every single play. Maybe things do happen for a reason… still Bearing Down, just like many Bears fans down in Florida are too… always.
