November 17, 2023: Week 11 Preview Bears at Lions

The return of Justin Fields in Week 11 at Detroit has me rethinking my strategy. The zero expectation philosophy that I adopted the past few weeks with the Bears has been working great. After the initial fall when the Bears lost to the Packers to start the season, another hit after they lost to the Vikings at home after getting their first win in Washington, I decided F this… no more. Maybe I’m a year early on my Bears’ expectations… maybe this year was just supposed to be a little better than last year. Well, as we enter this week, the Bears have matched their win total from last year. They will have 7 chances to get their 4th win of the season; heck, maybe they’ll even get 3 more wins to double their win total from last year. This was the bare minimum expectation heading into this year. Will the Bears be able to accomplish at least that?

Surely, they won’t win in Detroit, against the big, bad Lions… Well, that’s what Papa Vegas said as the game opened up Detroit -10. I immediately loved the Bears. Besides Fields returning, the Lions have played mostly tight games at home. Throw in the divisional angle, the Lions in the driver seat, the Bears needing some wins… I love the Bears in this spot. Not only with the 10 points, which you won’t be able to find any longer, but with a little something, something on the ML. Do the Bears need to win games down the stretch? Should they? I’m of the opinion that YES, they both need to and should win games from here on out. The need is linked to our future, especially at the QB position with Justin Fields. If the Bears can’t win a few games between now and the end of the season, then how can we believe Justin is the future? I know it’s not all him, but… I think there’s enough for Justin to show us he’s the guy. He’ll get his last chance down the stretch, unless a decision has already been made? Regardless, we should win because we need to learn to win; we need to figure that out, win some close games, as we prep for “the jump” next year. The Bears simply do not know how to win. Figuring that out a bit in this last half of the season will do wonders for us next year. Plus, I think the Panthers will take good care of our other #1 pick, so don’t worry…

Final Score Prediction: Bears 31 Lions 28

Ace in the Hole: Justin Fields 4 total TDs

I can’t quit you Justin… I still want to believe that you can be the man. Doesn’t matter what I think though… and if the decision makers with the Bears are still on the fence, you need to get them off; you need to perform at a high level. I know you said you had nothing to prove, well, I disagree. Put all the doubt to rest in these last 8 weeks of the season. Come out and show us more of those flashes; be more consistent. Sure, everything around you is not perfect, but that shouldn’t matter… IF you’re the guy. First chance to do so is in Detroit this week. Yeah… that whole zero expectation thing… not for me. Justin is back in the fold, and I’m back on the hook. Bear Down!!!
