Montez Sweat huh? Hey, it makes sense to add talent. When the Bears acquired this Washington pass rusher for a 2nd round pick, I was OK with it… assuming the extension is in the bank. The Bears wouldn’t have done this if that was not the case, right? Right???
Let’s assume (yeah, I know) for a minute that the Bears and Sweat will be together for a while. This is what we SHOULD be doing, instead of sending our talented players elsewhere. Roquan Smith, remember him? Young guy, coming off his rookie contract, best player on our team, sent packing mid-season last year. Since then, we’ve won 2 games… Now we have Jaylon Johnson…. young guy, coming off his rookie contract, 2nd best player on the team (tip of the cap to DJ Moore), and we’re NOT going to keep him??? Somebody make it make sense. The idea is to add talent NOT subtract it. These guys aren’t over the hill; these are young guys.. talented young guys, who should be part of what we’re trying to do. Adding a talented defensive lineman… yeah, where do I sign? Let’s just hope he doesn’t turn out like the last guy we acquired mid-season for a 2nd round pick…
Chase Claypool… how you doing? When the Bears made that trade, it felt like a little much, but… I was happy. Again, the Bears were adding talent to a position of need (we have a lot of those… still). Who saw this coming with Claypool? The Pittsburgh Steelers maybe… Brutal result of that Poles move, but we got a little something back for him. Something is better than nothing. He’s been doing great in Miami, right? He actually caught his first pass with the Dolphins this past weekend… bum.
I think the Bears are OK in the draft capital department. Well, sort of… Currently as it sits today, we’ll have our #1 pick and Carolina’s #1 pick. We’ll have our 3rd, 4th, and 5th round picks, along with Philly’s 4th round pick… I believe we got this one for the Eagles trading up to get Jalen Carter this year, right? Sure, Carter has looked like the real deal so far, but I think I’m OK with how Darnell Wright has been. Yes, he’s been up and down, and oh yeah, he’s hurt btw, but I like that pick; I want more “trench” picks!!! We did select 3 DTs, which was good, but no more offensive linemen… I was puzzled by that at the time, but have no fear… the Bears did acquire someone who doesn’t like to practice (and is now hurt) in the offseason. Any questions why our OL is still average on a good day?
Wouldn’t it be nice to invest those 2 first round picks next year in the trenches on both sides of the ball? Depending on how high they are, there are those QBs coming out… Will we be in position to make a decision on Fields at that point? It would help if he was healthy and playing some more… Sounds like it will be Bagent again on Sunday vs the Saints; I heard they have a pretty good defense… and we’ll be in the dome… Maybe Montez will be ready to make them sweat… so many options with that last name, including per the commercial that I’ve seen recently… “Did you know sweat caused by stress actually smells worse?” No, I actually did not know that. I do know the Bears need more talent; we got another guy… yes! Patiently waiting for news of an extension now… Bear Down!
