October 7, 2023: Going Forward

Whew… it’s been fun enjoying this Bears victory. For the first time in almost a year, we can take a breath; forget about going forward, just savor this W. I was extra glad because of the loss of #51… there was no way the Bears would let us down after hearing that news. It was too much already; we needed something positive. We got it; now what?

Well, the Vikings will come to town next Sunday. Now that we’re feeling a little better, will the Bears actually keep it up, or was that win supposed to last us for the next couple months? I feel like we have a good chance against Minnesota; they’re not that good… like us. It’s a division game; it’s at home. If the Bears want to start making strides in the right direction, we need to win games like this. Are we ready to start making strides, or are we still thinking about next year’s draft?

Let’s start off with the fact that Carolina will be our best first round pick next year; we have no control over that, but the way the Panthers look… we’re in pretty good shape there. So… we don’t have to try to “beat Carolina” and top their shittiness. We can go about our business, learning how to win, turning this ship around, for good… not just a one time stop gap. It’s OK… we can win some games now. Let’s not worry about OUR pick, and let Carolina bring us some goodness. I still imagine our pick will be pretty decent, but winning is more important right now, agree? Call off the tank efforts; way, way too early to think about that. Let’s stack some Ws, shall we?

Fields has been good; maybe you’re still not convinced… I’m not saying I am, but I am very happy to see him play well. This was/is a crucial year for Justin’s development, and in turn, for the future of the Bears franchise. If we can say with the utmost confidence that we have our QB, that would go a long way. I still think Fields deserves every chance to be that guy; he’s rewarded those with that type of faith the last couple weeks. But at the end of the day, what must also come with Justin’s improvement, are WINS. We know it’s not all in the QBs control, but… the great ones are linked to winning teams; it goes hand in hand. Will Justin be able to lead this team to wins?

The Bears were middle of the road to start the season IMO, but now, they’ve had a ton of injuries; these add up, especially for a mid-team without much depth. This could be something too much to overcome at some point, or… it could help some other young guys develop, and make us stronger in the long run. Nobody is going to feel sorry for us… we need to make it happen, one way or another. No excuses.

I’m going to ride this good mojo train until Sunday at noon, when I step off to watch us play the Vikings in Soldier Field. Hopefully, I’ll be able to step right back on. Bear Down!!!
