The Bears have started the season 0-4; there’s only one other team with the same results thus far. The other team? The Carolina Panthers. Of course, the Bears own theirs AND the Panthers’ first round pick. So yes, if the season ended today, the Bears would have the top 2 picks in the draft. The season isn’t ending today, and it’s still too early to start talking about next year’s draft. It’s too early for a lot of things… Settle down my brethren. I know it’s been tough, and it may not be as good as we thought it would be this year, but… per the schedule, we have 13 more games to play; let’s focus on those, shall we?
It’s too early to fire Eberflus too btw. We’re firing him after an 0-4 start? You absolutely cannot take last year into account; the Bears WANTED to lose, so Eberflus did his job, to perfection actually. Switching gears from losing to winning takes time. Hey, I was there Sunday; I would have loved to punch him in the face for that decision to NOT kick the FG late in the 4th. And yes, he SHOULD share the blame of this season thus far; everybody should. I really can’t think of one position, whether on or off the field, that shouldn’t share in shouldering the 1000 pound blame that is bearing down on them (bearing down… nice!). The Bears have been bad; there is no disputing that. Did I think they’d be better? Of course. Do I think they’ll win some games this year? Yes. Do I think they’ll still surpass their total number of wins (which was 3 btw) from last year? Yes. It may not be the 10 wins that I predicted with my rose-colored glasses on, but maybe 6, 7? Is that out of the question?
I hate the fact that we’re talking so much about NEXT year. I get it, trust me. Truth is, or truth should be, if Fields isn’t the guy, and I think we should have a pretty decent idea after this year, then we will certainly have the opportunity to switch gears. Maybe you already know Fields isn’t the guy; maybe you knew that last year. Well, you know me… I’m giving a guy every opportunity to do it; the bar is very low… if Fields isn’t a franchise QB, he can still be a great Bears QB, yes? No?
What I saw there in person on Sunday was that yes, the Bears actually do have guys that are open; imagine that! This time, Fields found them; he also gave his guys opportunities to make plays. Fields had a really good game. Yes, he didn’t finish it, like the defense among others. He had two devastating turnovers in the 4th; that hurt. He showed promise… that promise that we’ve seen in the past. This time, he didn’t do it running, but, wait for it, passing; yes, 4 passing TDs for Justin… in one half! If there is anything positive that we can take from another gut punch loss, it is this.
More to come… much more to come. We don’t have to wait long to try again to get that first W of the year. The Bears will head to Washington on Thursday night; great, Bears on primetime… The Commanders have been pretty decent this year, almost beating Philly last week. Love Coach Rivera… what could have been. But for now, it’s Eberflus leading us. It’s almost been a complete calendar year!!! Let’s get a win boys. Bear Down!
