September 17, 2023: Holding On

If you came to get some negative bashing of the Bears after their Week 2 loss, you came to the wrong place… at least with this entry. Sure, I can get into that, but right this second, I’m holding on to that towel; I’m not giving up on the season… yet.

There are 7 other teams that have an 0-2 record along with us; we are not alone. You want to get into the weeds with every other 0-2 team and the teams they’ve played, the stats, the expectations, etc… go for it. Now I’m sure those teams have won a game since last October, unlike us, but… bottom line, there are a total of 8 teams that haven’t won a game yet this year; that total could increase after the 2 Monday night games. Stay strong my brother!

Maybe it’s the fact that the wind was already taken out of my sails after the Week 1 game that I’m trying not to think about any more. We had already crash landed back on earth; Sunday in Tampa Bay, we were just walking around… aimlessly. I didn’t have a great feeling going into the game; I wasn’t expecting much. It’s much easier to swallow a loss when you weren’t expecting to win anyways. Expectations are a big part of the week to week swing. Since I swung so far the other way after our first loss, not a whole lot of movement after this second one.

There are 15 more games to play. One could say that’s 15 more potential losses, or like the Mr. Half Glass Full kind of guy I am, that’s 15 more potential wins. Most likely, it’ll be somewhere in the middle. What were you expecting this year overall? I picked 10 wins for our boys, and I’ll admit, that was probably a little optimistic. Coming off a 3 win season, if we were anywhere near 500 this year, it would be a good year. More importantly, was the progress of our potential franchise QB; OK, let’s not get into that right now. I’m staying positive, but since I brought it up…

What’s the worst case scenario for our boys this year? 6-10 maybe? OK, so we double our win total from last year; we’re trending up!!! And, and… if that’s where we end up, our draft position will be good; go New Orleans on Monday night speaking of draft picks. I hate to talk about draft picks after Week 2, but I’m just worst case scenario-ing it right now. And if the other part of that scenario shows us that Fields is NOT the guy, well, we’d be in position to do something about it, as soon as next year. So…

Keep your heads up Bears fans! I know, I know… the thought of another shitty season ahead of us is a grim thought, but it’s not over yet. It’s still VERY early; the Bears can still do some damage, or at the very least, win a game. Now that win may not come next week in Arrowhead, but soon after that, right? Bear Down!!!
