When looking at the Bears schedule, you may have picked them to lose Week 1 vs the Packers; I get that. However, looking at Week 2, heading down to a Baker Mayfield led Tampa Bay team, you had to have penciled in a W, right? Well, I certainly did. Now, after Week 1’s shit show, I can’t even feel good about that…
OK, no need to rehash Week 1 other than the fact that expectations were sky high, and the Bears brought us back to earth via crash landing. This week on sports radio, Twitter, everywhere else in Chicago… not pretty. For all the goodwill the season was starting with, it has disappeared that quick. Alas, this is the week to week drama that is the NFL season; let’s not drain all the drama in the first week. But yeah, drained feels like a good word; expectations right sized works too. Heading into the Week 2 matchup, I don’t have a lot of confidence in our boys; I wouldn’t be surprised if they lose again. This I’m hoping, is the reason they win this one. When we don’t expect anything and/or expect the worst, the Bears will surprise us. I hope.
It’s Baker Mayfield for God’s sake! Yeah, the TB offense surely won’t put a scare into anybody, but their defense? They’re not too shabby. They did go up to Minnesota and get a win in Week 1, another one nobody thought would have happened. The Vikes proceeded to go 0-2, this time losing to the Eagles in Philly; no shame in that one. How will this Bucs Bears game play out?
Well, Papa thinks it’s going to be a close game, giving the edge to the home field team Tampa Bay by 2.5 points. Honestly, I don’t know what the hell to think. But, I guess I have to give it a try.
Final Score Prediction: Bears 35 Bucs 20
Ace in the Hole: Justin Fields 3 total TDs
What else did you expect? Look, I’m still believing this will be a good season; F week 1. I think the Bears should run the ball. Herbert looked good; Freeman looked OK, and Roschon? Well, Roschon played his ass off in a game where everybody else was walking around looking defeated. Did I mention how he plowed that Packer guy? That was one of the few highlights; let’s see some more. But honestly, it doesn’t matter who it is, running the ball that is. Either of the 3 RBs, and of course, Justin Fields. Was he too conservative last week? Could he have ran some more? I certainly don’t want to turn Justin into that 4th RB, but… whatever it takes to win, right? Losing in Tampa with a trip to Arrowhead to follow would have the Bears looking down the barrel at an 0-3 start; nobody wants that.
I want to see Fields throw the ball down the field; he needs to take a shot(s)… he has the arm. And yes, I know, he needs the time, but man… roll him out then; bootleg Fields left or right with a couple guys crossing. With Fields at QB, regardless of the line’s condition, our options should be many, and no, I’m not talking QB draw; I hate that shit almost as much as a WR screen. Anyways… here’s hoping the Bears bounce back in Week 2… Bear Down!!!
