Bear Mondays are back. Unfortunately, the first one of the season is a losing Bear Monday… a bad one too. Monday mornings are bad enough, add in the rain, and a loss to the Pack… brutal. Although when you consider the date today, and what happened 22 years ago… This morning, my 11 year old said it was the worst day in American history; never really ranked the worst days in American history, but it definitely is somewhere near the top. Well, none of this sports stuff is in that category… but as far as within the sports category… yeah, the Monday after a Bears loss to the Packers ranks up there, especially this one.
It was like watching a replay of the past 30 years; a real live version of the Twilight Zone. This one was supposed to be different; Rodgers was gone. The Packers would be starting a new QB, one not destined for the Hall of Fame, or IN the Hall of Fame like Favre before Aaron. NOW the playing field is level. NOW the tables will turn. This is OUR time. Well, the playing field may have been level, but the tables sure didn’t turn. It was the same old shit. No pressure on their QB and stupid ass play calling on our side. I think those are the first 2 things that come to mind. The fact that the BIG plays were all on the Packers side feels familiar too. The long passes to Aaron Jones, the fumble, the pick six… Our biggest play? The 20 yard TD pass to Mooney? I love how the rook ran over that Packer in the secondary; wow! Other than that though… it was a snooze fest on a day that was supposed to be different. It was just another ass kicking delivered to us by the green and gold shit bunch.
Jordan Love looked better than Justin Fields; I hate to type that, but for this day, it was true. Now, he didn’t have a Hall of Fame day or anything like that. The three longest plays of the game were thanks to Aaron Jones legs (twice) and a busted coverage that left their rookie TE WIDE open. Yet, like the broadcasters said, already prepping to suck off the next Packers QB, Love made the big plays when they needed them. He was not spectacular by any means, but he was solid, although frankly, any NFL QB that can just stand back there with minimal pressure should be able to do well. Fields on the other end, well, he didn’t have that luxury. So we’re back to blaming the offensive line? The play calling absolutely sucked, but why? Are the coaches that bad, or were we trying to protect our offensive line that was supposed to be a lot better? In a loss like this, there’s plenty of blame to go around. Fields didn’t play horrible, he was just… ok. He had his moments. But I will say this… he manned up after the game, even though he was far from the reason we lost… he was part of it, and he owned it. Bravo Justin. And yes, just like you said, I do believe you’ll be better… I really do; I think the Bears will actually be OK. Although after a game like this, it’s tough to see.
Not sure when the rain will stop today in Chicago, but I do know it will pass eventually, just like this latest edition of the Bears Packers rivalry. This entry had a little more meaning behind it, which was why I felt we really needed it; it didn’t happen. Another milestone victory on the Packers side of the ledger, one that has way too many of them in recent history. We’ll have to wait until the end of the year to get another chance at the Pack; we only have to wait 1 week to get our next chance on the field. A visit to Tampa Bay seemed harmless enough, but right this second… I wouldn’t be surprised if we dropped that one too… then to KC?!?! And another Bears season begins.
