My 3rd and final Fantasy Football Draft took place on Wednesday evening; this would be the doozy. Yes, the auction draft that would last more than 3 hours. It was fun though. Honestly, the auction draft, if you’ve never done it, is way, way better than a snake. YOU get to mold your team; you’re not at the mercy of what pick you have and who is available. You can get anybody you want… of course, within the $200 budget for your roster. Let the games begin!

I happened to be the first pick of the draft, and I wanted to start with a little chaos; I threw out Jonathan Taylor. He ended up going for relatively cheap, but it really didn’t go as I planned. One of the guys, the new guy, had dropped off for a minute… internet problems or something… a common theme for my night… so the auto bidding kicked in for him, which stopped someone else from getting him cheaper. Oh well… In the spirit of chaos, the next guy that was thrown out there was Cooper Kupp…. haha. Love it. In general, my auction strategy is to nominate players I’m not really interested in; there are exceptions to the rule of course. I could get really interested really quick in a guy that I wasn’t interested in if the price is right. This is the key to an auction. You can’t really say I’m getting this guy no matter what; I’ve made that mistake before. Problem is, when somebody else told themselves the same thing… for me that was Justin Herbert a couple years back; this year it was Calvin Ridley. $38!!! It was insane, but hey, go get your guy! There were a few crazy ones, including $61 for Patrick Mahomes. I know he’s Mahomes and all, but I generally don’t like to pay a lot for a QB. In fact, I paid a couple more dollars than I wanted to for mine at $27, but looking at Mahomes for $61, I was pretty happy with Allen for $27… although my brother got Lamar at $11… so there’s that.

Usually I’m in on one of the big names, but this year, I wasn’t… I mean, like I said, if the price was right, but other than that, not really in love with any of these guys. I didn’t get my first player until the 19th pick of the draft, when I secured AJ Brown for $38… a little more than I would have liked to pay, but when you wait… 10 picks later I got a guy I really wanted… Glad the bidding didn’t go over $40, as I got Tony Pollard for $36. 4 picks later is when I got Josh Allen, and I had my big 3. Deebo Samuel, Alvin Kamara, Khalil Herbert were all next… I probably paid a couple more bucks for each one of them than I would have liked. Elijah Moore I got on the cheap for $7, followed by Courtland Sutton, Treylon Burks, and Quentin Johnston for a combined total of $13! I was very happy on that. I could have went higher on Dotson or Gabe Davis, but to get all 3 of those guys for the same price… yeah, I’m good. Jaylen Warren, Roschon Johnson, Darius Slayton, Kenneth Gainwell, Michael Mayer (I finally had a TE!!!), Chase Edmonds, and Jeff Wilson Jr completed my roster. I picked the Bears defense, because of course I did, and picked up Graham Gano off the wire after putting Wilson on the IR. I’m good.

OK, so no more prep work, no more draft days/nights… the real games begin on Thursday night. I’m ready for some football.
