August 29, 2023: Prediction Time

posted in: Bears | 0

It’s that time of year, when I predict the Bears regular season record. Last year I had the Bears at 10-7, so… don’t bet the house on these predictions. Although, hear me out, OK, well, even with those few games that one play would have changed it, we’re still talking 6-11, so… yeah, so what! I remain positive at the start of each and every year; this year is no different. And yes, although some national heads are coming along with the Bears hype train, just remember the conductor; you’re reading him. Without further delay…

Week 1 vs GB: WIN 23-21

This is the game we have been waiting for… not only since the schedule was announced, but since the day Brett Favre took the helm in Green Bay. No more Favre, no more Rodgers, no more HOF QB for the Cheesedicks. We HAVE to win this game, but.. I have already expressed my concern. Why the 2.5 line, that oh yeah, btw, is down to 1.5? Scary stuff… but, I simply cannot pick the Bears to lose this game, principles. I am worried though…

Week 2 at TB: WIN 34-17

OK, after the big win Week 1, want to avoid a letdown. Without Brady in Tampa Bay, doesn’t look very bright for the Buccos. Baker Mayfield? Really? Let’s pound their asses!

Week 3 at KC: LOSS 38-20

The 2-0 Bears (this year’s eventual Super Bowl winner) take on the defending Super Bowl Champs in Arrowhead, and… it goes about as well as expected. The Bears are somewhat back, but not THAT far back… yet. The Chiefs embarrass us pretty badly, but nobody in Chicago is phased by this. We’ve already seen the progress; we’ve already almost matched our win total from last year! We’re hungry for more.

Week 4 vs DEN: LOSS 20-17

Coming back home, against a team on a totally different, lower level than our AFC West opponent from the week before, we should take care of business, but… that’s why they play the games. It’s not pretty, and it’s a little concerning. Should we bench Fields??? Haha…

Week 5 at WAS: WIN 24-21

Revenge game from last year, one of those Ws we could have had if Mooney catches that ball cleanly. This time we’re on the road in DC, against a team that I think is going to be better than people think as well. It’s an evenly played game that comes down to a FG at the end. The Bears pull it off, inch above 500, and match their 2022 win total. Pop the champagne bitches!!!

Week 6 vs MIN: LOSS 27-14

One must protect their home field if one wants to be a serious contender. The Bears, with another loss at home, this time to a division foe, are what they are at this point. Yes, we’re at 500 through 6 games, which feels OK, but… how patient can we be? We’ve seen good things from this team, but still inconsistent… still learning to win. When will they get better?

Week 7 vs OAK: WIN 31-24

There we go… finally another win at home; finally a win over the AFC West. I think the Raiders are going to be decent this year, but the Bears are too. We inch above 500 again; can we keep the momentum going?

Week 8 at LAC: LOSS 35-28

No… the AFC West is tough! We’re not ready for all that just quite yet. On the road, on Sunday night, Justin Fields tries to match Justin Herbert throw for throw, and does pretty well, but not enough.

After almost half of the season, the Bears sit at 4-4; how would you feel about that? I’d feel OK. I’d expect better things in the 2nd half, or at the very least, the same. Let’s look at those games next. Bear Down!!!
