Saturday night was the first White Sox game I attended this year. I took my son of course, and my dad; it was a lot of fun. We actually brought the Sox some luck, go figure. And yeah, we didn’t get hit by any stray bullets.
Did you hear about that? Friday night, 2 folks got “shot” in the stadium. When the news first broke, I was like WTF really… IN the ballpark? Details were unclear, but at the end of the day, it sounds like a couple bullets fell from the sky… literally… and struck 2 people sitting in the outfield; that’s kind of crazy… they’re OK btw. Now I don’t know anything about guns, but I guess it makes sense… what goes up must come down logic? So what happens on New Year’s Eve when everybody goes outside and fires shots in the air? Where do all those bullets land? Of course it had to happen in Chicago… just add to our rep… but how random. We still pushed forward with the plan Saturday night, hoping NOT to be a random footnote; I didn’t get seats in the outfield though…
Yeah, parking around the stadium isn’t fun. I’m just one of those guys that doesn’t like to pay for parking; call me stubborn, cheap, whatever, but… yeah. If there are no other options, then sure… chuck it up. But if I could find free parking… oh man, will I find it. And if that entails a bit of walking, well, I like to walk. First off, found a spot on 33rd, a few blocks from the park; the no parking during games signs were down the block, on the other side of the alley; did it apply to MY spot? I was kind of thinking it did, but to make sure, I walked across the street to talk to a few of Bridgeport’s finest; they said I’d get a ticket 100%. I thanked them, and then asked if they had a parking pass I could buy off them; the lady replied with “I don’t even drive”, while her boyfriend (?) sat there rolling a joint… haha. Anyways, back to the streets, to find something outside of permit-ville; we did, on 29th. Now we were about a mile from the park; my son and I were fine… my dad wasn’t pleased… haha. We made it though, and saved $30 on parking… bam!
So the game, yeah, the Sox hit a few home runs, which was cool, because we got to see some fireworks. The As barely put up an effort, finally scratching a couple runs out late in the game. 6-2 was the final. I guess I should have been attending Sox games all along to help them out…
We didn’t spend any time in Kids Zone, but we did go back to the speed gun; last year, my son registered 52 mph on it. This year… 55 mph! He was happy. The guy told me I could throw one; I figured I’d at least hit 60… well, I didn’t. I hit 56… 1 more mph than my son; that don’t seem right… haha. Sure, my 11 year old son has a cannon, but I know I could throw faster than him. Anyways, we walked back to our seats, as I rubbed my arm…
Probably will be the first and last Sox game I attend, but it was fun; had to stop at Ricobene’s afterwards. Next up? Hopefully another Cubs game, although with my son back in school, options may be limited; we’ll see…
