It was actually 2 weeks ago, but it felt like that today. It has really felt like that this entire past week. With all the palm trees I´ve seen, I definitely know one place they can get those palms for Church now.
I knew about palm trees before this week. Living out in California for some years, I saw them all the time. It was definitely weird to watch a Bears game with my apartment door open and a palm tree blowing in the wind. This week, it´s been nothing but palm trees.
I love palm trees… tall and skinny, just kind of swaying in the breeze. That coupled with the ocean makes for a very relaxing time. In fact, that has been pretty much all I´ve been doing.
On this last night of vacation, I cherish the memories. Before getting back to the routine, I think about my routine the past 7 days.
It went like this: get up late… late for me is anything after 7am, so any time between 8am-9am qualifies. Put the swim gear on. There really wasn´t a need to pack much, because for 75% of the day, it was swim trunks. Next, go to the restaurant, right across the walkway, for a breakfast buffet. The food was really good. Hit the beach and pool. This is where the majority of the time on this vacation was spent. From right after breakfast until late in the afternoon, the hours were spent swimming, reading, relaxing, eating some lunch, and having a couple drinks. Head back to the room and shower. In my normal routine, a shower is always first thing in the morning. In my vacation routine, showers happened at 6pm. Dinner proceeded the showers. Any one of multiple restaurants, all with a different specialty, some with regular menu and some buffet… all very delicious. Walk around for a bit before heading back to the room to put our son to sleep. Being on vacation with my mother in law, we were then able to go out for a couple drinks.. most nights. We did crash on a couple, and then there was one late night. After the couple drinks, this blog was written. Sometimes I was able to do it between the beach and the showers. This remained a part of my routine even on vacation in another country.

It wasn´t easy… I did have my challenges. Whether it was the shaky internet connection, the fact that I had a few drinks, or the different keyboard I had to adjust to, it was interesting. I´m happy I still found time for it.
I was happy to find out that the Cubs came back and won today too. I saw them losing early, and then checked a final late. Some good news from Chicago to end this trip. One exciting thing to go back to is definitely watching the Cubs play, since I haven´t seen that since Opening Night.
I did miss my teams, that´s for sure, but it didn´t matter… not for one week… not for this week. Thinking about the routine I will have to go back to in a few days, doesn´t really bum me out, but it cannot compare to this past week. If it could only be like this all the time…
It can´t, and we all know that. Vacation was fun, now reality awaits… and that´s not so bad either. Good bye for now Punta Cana. It was a blast, but we can´t stay. Hopefully, we´ll return. Until then, stay 80s and blue skies every day… keep that clear blue water beautiful, and keep making every day feel like Palm Sunday. One more look at those palm trees tomorrow, and it will be time to say adios. The vacation is ending, but the blogging is still going strong. Playoff time is upon us…
