As the NFL preseason wraps up this coming weekend, one thing is certain: the regular season starts soon! The Lions and Chiefs will kick things off on Thursday September 7th leading us into the glorious return of football. For our Bears, that means one thing: the Packers. For a game I have looked forward to, not only for months, but for decades, why am I starting to worry?
It all starts with Papa Vegas. The line for the game is Bears -2.5; this was the original line that came out months ago for this game. It hasn’t moved. It sits there… at -2.5… begging people to throw money on the Bears. What confuses me even more is that when you factor in 3 points for home field advantage, I’m being told the Packers are STILL better than the Bears on a neutral field? Is that right? Are you starting to understand why I’m worrying ahead???
The back to back HOF QBs of the Green Bay Packers are now a distant memory. The reign of terror is over. Finally, it’s time to officially turn the tables back to the right side. The Bears hype train has been building and building, as national heads throw their two cents in; I don’t like it! Just leave us here off the radar. Not only that, but word out of Green Bay is that Jordan Love has struggled… mightily. Then why, tell me, why has that line not moved off that 2.5? I’m just sick.
Maybe I’m just making too much of this… I was talking about this with somebody at work, and they calmed me down a bit. He thinks it will be a close game, but Justin Fields will do something spectacular for the Bears W. I like the sound of that. So the Bears win, but don’t cover? I’m perfectly fine with that. I don’t care how ugly the win is; 2-0 because of a safety.. that’s fine. Any way we can get it, we just have to get it.
I heard some stuff about the Bears OL. Another injury to deal with, a guy who doesn’t like to practice… what next? Are we going to see a repeat of Fields running for his life back there? And then you hear about the Packers and all those first round draft picks they have starting on defense; maybe the line DOES make sense? Maybe the Packers D will shut us down. Maybe this will be a low scoring affair. How much do we believe in our defense heading into the season? No, no… this can’t be happening.
It’s OUR time. This whole Bears and Packers thing that has been going on for a century… the rivalry that the Packers have owned over the past few decades… it needs to turn… now. No, not the next time we play the Packers this year; the reign of terror has to end Week 1 at Soldier Field. I don’t care about the final preseason game; good luck to all the fringe players on roster trim down day and all, but… I’m thinking about one thing. The anticipation is building to an all-time high… and we still have 2 weeks to go! OK, breathe… it’s all good. Bear Down…
