Entering Sunday, both Chicago baseball teams were in position for the sweep. The Cubs took the first two games against the Blue Jays in Toronto, while the Sox dropped the first two to the Brewers at the Cell. How would each series end up? To sweep or not to sweep…
The Cubs have continued their hot play. Sure, they dropped a series in New York to the Mets, which is certainly nothing to be proud of, but they picked it back up as they headed across the border. The Blue Jays have been playing good ball too. Cubs came in and beat the Blue Jays 6-2 and 5-4 in the first two games respectively. With Jameson Taillon on the mound on Sunday afternoon, I felt good; that’s not something I would have said months ago. Taillon looked to be a bust of a signing. Seemingly every time he went out there, he was getting knocked around the park. Well, that was old Taillon… new Taillon has been a whole lot better. The Cubs have won each of the last 6 games he’s started; Taillon has notched 5 of those wins himself. Yeah, he’s been slowly entering the circle of trust. Well, like they say, can’t win them all. The Blue Jays would not be swept at home. 11-4 the wrong way was the result. Still, winning series is all it’s about, and the Cubs did that. Now come on home…
Meanwhile, the Sox… what a bunch of dogs. They couldn’t win one single game against Milwaukee this weekend; thanks for nothing. Crazy thing… there are some Sox fans that are happy they lost to the Brewers each of the 3 games because they didn’t help the Cubs; yeah, it’s like that. Yeah, the Sox got swept, barely putting up a fight in front of their fans on Sunday; rough year to be a Sox fan. Are the Brewers for real? The Cubs have been hot, but over the last 10 games, the Brewers have been better. Both the Cubs and Reds sit 3.5 games out as we start the new week.
The Sox are now 25 games under 500; woof! However, I’m thinking they’ll be playing with a little extra juice in their next series. Yes, the Sox are heading to Wrigley for a quick 2 game set Tuesday and Wednesday. What should be an easy 2 game sweep for the Cubs, will be anything but that… at least that’s how it typically goes in these crosstown matchups. The better team usually struggles; I guess I should check that to confirm my feeling. Either way, I certainly hope this doesn’t play true this week; the Cubs are in a race for the playoffs, while the Sox, well… they’re only 9 games out of last place; squad goals man…
So lay down Sox, just like you did this past weekend. Let’s put our cross town bickering aside, and support the one baseball team in Chicago that actually has a chance to do something this week. Go Cubs!!!
