One time a guy told me I had a nice smile… I was like, uh, OK, thanks? I’m thinking, is this dude coming on to me? Anyways, I get it… it’s hard to resist…haha. I have been told this by members of the opposite sex too; I think my wife feels that way too? Either way, I like to smile. Does it always match what is going on inside of me? No, not necessarily. But what am I going to do? Hang my face? Life ain’t easy, but it’s good, and for all that good, I smile.
My sports teams make me smile too; they have made me cry, but that’s not the topic today. I think about the Cubs recently, and how they covered that run line for me by scoring a run in the bottom of the 8th against the Reds; I smiled. But yeah, the run they’ve been on… couldn’t be more happily surprised. Being in Wrigley for one of those games against Cincy… that made me smile too. I missed THAT Wrigley. It was electric on that summer evening when the Cubs were rounding the bases. After I took that game in personally, yeah, who knows how this season will turn out when it’s all said and done, but the Cubs are back; that much I can tell you.
How about the Bears? I’m trying to temper my excitement. I said it a while ago, that they would be competing for a playoff spot this year; maybe that was just the homer in me. But now, I see all these other people saying it… like I said the other day, I don’t like to hear it that much… at least not this early. We haven’t played one game. Speaking of that first game… you know what else makes me smile? Seeing anyone in a Packers shirt walking around… haha. Yeah, party is over MFers. No more big bad HOF QB for your sorry ass franchise to hide behind. I just look at these people and smile… it’s our turn now. I’ve said it before, and maybe I should wait to say it until we beat them week 1, but… the tide is finally turning, and I’m right here for it.
The Blackhawks made me smile a whole lot lately when they won the NHL Draft Lottery, and then when we made it official by drafting Connor Bedard. Woo hoo! Talk about giving the rebuild a turbo boost… not to mention all the rest of the draft picks, signings, and acquisitions. Do I feel the same about this upcoming Blackhawks’ year? Man… kind of. Just like the Bears, the Hawks will put last year’s performance in the rear view quickly with a much improved season coming up. Playoff bound? Well, let’s just wait and see, but part of me… why the hell not? Let’s go!!!
The Bulls haven’t necessarily made me smile that much lately, but… it’s kind of hard to complain about the Bulls. I mean, they have only brought me 6 NBA Titles in my lifetime, while allowing me to watch the best player of all time play for MY team; that smile doesn’t wear off, let me tell you.
And then there’s the Sox… who sometimes make me smile for the opposite reason, like doing things that will make their fans cry. Speaking of them… did you happen to catch the Sox game Saturday night?
