April 9, 2015: Out of the Loop

I love going on vacation.  It makes working all those days worth it.  It´s the time you get to celebrate… to unwind… to take some time out of the Matrix.  I never understood those people who didn´t use all their vacation days.  I get it if you can roll them over, but if you´re in the use it or lose it scenario, and to just throw vacation days away, is just crazy to me.

I think the best thing to do on vacation is to get away.  You need to remove yourself as much as you can from the day to day; refresh that battery, and come back to reality raring to go.  Getting away is the only way to go for me.  When you get away, sometimes you get away from everything… including what the heck is happening with your sports teams.  Well, I took a quick glance at ESPN Chicago tonight to get my update.

Rose has returned… and they lost to the Magic, but they beat the Heat.  The key here is that Rose actually came back, and for that, I´m happy.  I was giving him one more chance… if he didn´t come back this season… I would have had a difficult time with that.  Thankfully, he´s back, and now the Bulls are a week away from the start of the playoffs.  I´ll be back by then.

Speaking about playoffs, the Hawks are stumbling in.  Losers of 3 straight I see… I actually got to watch a bit of the 3rd period tonight vs the Blues.  It´s not a good way to enter the 2nd season, but I´m just glad it´s here.  Whether this Hawks team wins 3 straight going in, or loses 3 straight going in, is not going to sway my opinion of them… it´s not going to make me think one way or another.  I´m sure they´re all just as happy to get to this part of the season as the fans are.  Let the real games begin.

Cubs get a W.  I always have to have some Cubs on my fantasy baseball team, and this year was no different.  The difference this year was the addition of some Cubs fans in our league that drove up the price on some guys sky high.  So I missed out on Bryant, Lester, and the guy I really wanted, Soler.  Still, I was able to snag two Cubbies.  One of them is Starlin Castro which I surprisingly got for $11 in a SS short league; I think he got the game winning hit.  I also got Jake Arrieta.  I paid a little more than I wanted to, but I really think this guy has got it figured out.  It took him a while, but I think he´s legit.  He got the W, and the Cubs are off the hook…

That´s more than I can say for the team with maybe the best offseason of all, the White Sox.  Getting swept out of the box is not good.  Getting swept out of the box in a season with raised expectations is even worse.  Don´t panic just yet Sox faithful.  You have 159 left to make up for these first three; I´m sure they´ll be just fine.

Finally, to touch all sports, Peanut is officially gone.  I don´t really care.  Yeah, he becomes the latest example of Bears that should have retired as Bears on their own will; Urlacher, Hester, Briggs, Kreutz, and now Peanut.  I guess I´m used to it already.  It would have been nice for him to end his career in a Bears uni, but.. that´s the breaks.  I did see a blurb about the Bears intersted in Mariota… not sure how much truth there is to that, but that would be awesome.  Dumping Cutler would make me a very happy Bears fan.

OK.  So from out of the loop, to caught up.  Did I really miss much?  I guess time away from one of your passions is a good thing too.  Same concept.. you come back ready to go.  And when I get back in the loop, playoff season will be starting for both our Bulls and Hawks, and maybe the Sox will have won by then.  Still finding time to get away to notch my daily entry… the streak is alive!  See you soon Chicago.

Mariota…be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.
Mariota did not look very good when he played a real defense, Ohio State. Take away the read option (which Ohio State very successfully did) and he may not be all that special.
