July 26, 2023: The Juice

I would love to say the Cubs beating the Sox two times in a row was the nail in their 2023 coffin, but… that nail has been there. The Cubs simply came by Comiskey, The Cell, The Rate, whatever… to throw a rose on top of the casket before it was lowered into Lake Michigan. Isn’t it a beautiful thing?

I said a couple days ago, I didn’t think there was any juice to this series, not like there normally is. Well, let me tell you who was watching most of the last 2 games; me! Heck yes, I was tuned in to watch what happened when the cross town teams met; I wasn’t disappointed. Once that first pitch was thrown, I felt it; I wanted the Cubs to win, just a little more than I typically do. Bury these cockroaches, and bury them they did.

I didn’t know how bad Tim Anderson was. Did you know he has 0 home runs this year? Holy crap! Has all that off the field stuff gotten to him? I can believe that. Then, he makes an error in the first game, which was followed by back to back home runs; ouch! I’m guessing Sox fans are done with him… I remember when he first came along, and Sox fans were like “he’s the best SS in Chicago” while Baez struggled. Well, got something to tell you: Dansby Swanson is the best SS in Chicago and it ain’t close. 2 bombs in the first game were beautiful. It was a blow out, that almost turned into a close game until Seiya robbed Moncada, another guy probably heading out of town, from hitting a grand salami which would have cut the lead to 2 runs. Whew! First game in the books.

The second game started off a bit different. The Sox were up 7-2; there was stuff out there from Sox fans burying the Cubs…. that didn’t work out too well. Cubs stormed back against Lance Lynn, who probably should just retire already. I thought the Sox would put up a fight afterwards, but that was it… over. Cubs took the lead 8-7, and tacked on two more for a final score of 10-7; not a fricking peep from the Sox… until Giolito was traded to the Angels… and so it begins.

I don’t think it should be a complete fire sale; I mean, Cease and Robert should still be here. But holy cow… what a mess on the South Side. It all started when they hired LaRussa, and then decided to follow that blunder up by hiring somebody from a perennial loser in the same division, the Royals; who is making these decisions? Finally spend some money on the roster then hire a dead man walking and a bum team coach to lead them? It’s not on the managers, but wow… not ideal. At the end of the day, the players make their own bed, and many of them will be sleeping in different beds within the next week, just like Giolito.

As far as the Cubs, well… let’s hope the juice from this series, and the past 5 ball games (all wins) carries over to the 4 game series in St. Louis. I honestly think the Cubs should be buyers; is it too late to change direction Jed? And it’s not just because of this hot streak; it’s what I’ve thought all along…even before the season. Picking up a few dudes at the deadline could certainly propel this team in the weak NL Central. Tick tock…
