July 24, 2023: Cubs Sox Bump

posted in: Cubs, White Sox | 0

The Crosstown Series begins on Tuesday; are you excited? Normally, when these days come around, we get a Cubs Sox bump in adrenaline… ready to have an all-out civil war at times. I know I’m getting older, just like we all are, but… I’m not feeling it. Maybe it will kick in when the games begin; yeah, that’s it.

It’s a weird time in Chicago baseball. The Cubs are mediocre in a mediocre division, refusing to go “all in” building a team since we’re still in the early stages of the rebuild nobody wants to talk about, on the brink of selling off our best players instead of being buyers to give us a chance THIS year. The Sox are shitty in a mediocre division, apparently closing in on the closing of a championship window that resulted in absolutely 0 playoff series wins, while being hated more by their fans and current players than anybody else. Yeah, this should be fun.

I remember the days… when we had a ton of people in the office, and would go back and forth talking shit about the Cubs and Sox all day long, especially during these days. We’d all head to the bar, letting each other know anytime our team did something good. It was fun. I saw one of those guys this weekend; he said he’s way past that. He said, we each have our World Series titles, and now, we both suck. He’s not wrong. I’m not past it per se, but… the Cubs did win the World Series; that emptiness in my Chicago sports heart has been filled. Sure, I want my teams to win every year, but… we have won, thankfully. He did go on to say that he loves Justin Steele; I agreed. Thankfully, we haven’t seen HIS name in the seller’s market that is the Cubs front office.

What should we expect from this series? How about a Cubs Sox trade mid-series? Like one of the guys walks across the field and puts the other team’s uniform on; that would be cool… that would get that bump, especially if it was the Cubs turning buyers and snagging one of the Sox players that doesn’t want to be there any more. But why would we want an underachiever? That’s what the Sox are, no? I had zero expectations for the Cubs this year; not saying that’s a good thing, just saying that on the South Side, it was another shot at a World Series title this year, right? The Sox are 19 games under 500 btw… The Cubs are 8 games clear of them in the standings; who the heck would have thought that???

Maybe, maybe… the Cubs and Sox get together and form 1 team that can compete for something; how’s that? How many 100s of years between the 2 franchises and a total of 6 World Series titles between them? I know the Cubs were always the “loveable losers” and the Sox may not be loveable, but don’t get it twisted; they are losers… we both are. 2 teams in 1 city and THIS is all we got?!?! I got nothing else… but yeah, I’ll be tuning in… haha. Go Cubs!
