The NBA Draft took place on Thursday, June 22; what an exciting time. Your team gets to add new talent to the roster, hoping to land the new big star. Of course, Wembanyama was the star attraction; the Spurs scooped him up with the first overall pick. I wonder how he’ll be… time will tell. Other teams added talent when their turn on the clock hit, and then there’s the Bulls… NBA draftless… 0 picks… what a buzz kill.
It wasn’t so different than the trade deadline, where the Bulls were the only team (other than the Cavs who had made their moves already before the season) that didn’t make any moves. Why though? I’d like to think that they tried really hard, but didn’t force it, because the price wasn’t right; I’d like to think that… not sure if I believe it though. In the same way, I’d like to think the Bulls were trying to make a trade to get into this year’s draft. They finally did, when they sent some future 2nd rounders to grab the 35th overall pick in the 2nd round; welcome to the Bulls Julian Phillips. Who?
I have watched more college basketball recently, but still don’t know all the players; hope this kid turns out to be something… we need it. I guess I’m just glad the Bulls snuck in there; I would have preferred them to trade Zach Lavine to get into the first round, but… There were plenty of rumors swirling about the Bulls and Lavine; nothing has come of them so far. Is Lavine’s value that low on the market? If NBA scouts know him as well as Bulls fans do, I guess so. Still, he would be a nice piece on a very good team with 2 stars better than him… there’s got to be somebody out there that fits that bill, no?
More and more I’m feeling like the Bulls will be running back essentially the same team; I’m NOT looking forward to that. Resigning Vooch? Resign and trade maybe. Running Lavine and DD back? Rather see us get something for Zach, while letting DD finish his career here and/or moving him at the deadline for something. Coby? I’d like to keep him actually. I’m seeing good things about Patrick Williams… again. Unfortunately, it hasn’t consistently translated on the floor during the regular season; maybe THIS will be his break out year? That would have to be a MUST if the Bulls are expecting different results with the same group. We know Lonzo won’t be on the court; there has to be something we can do there… can we really blame AK for that one, or was it just bad luck? He did have an injury history…
As my son gets more and more into the NBA, he sees that the Bulls aren’t that great; he IS a Bulls fan (he has no other choice at this point), but man, I’d like to see them do something to get back to winning, to get back to being in that group of teams that could win an NBA title. #7 has been on deck for 25 years now… I don’t want my son to have to wait until he’s 25 to see it happen. Come on Bulls… do SOMETHING! I guess we just did… Go Bulls.
