April 14, 2023: To The Road

We were going to the Bulls Heat play in game on Friday night in Miami!!! The winner will be slotted in the #8 seed, and served up to be slaughtered by the Bucks most likely, but hey… at least the winner would be officially “IN”. As we drove from the Keys up to Orlando and back down to Miami, I was excited to see the Bulls play somewhere else. We’ve seen the Bulls play at the UC dozens and dozens of times; I’ve seen them play in the Chicago Stadium a handful of times. My wife and I watched them play in LA a handful of times when we lived out there. We made the trip as a family up to Milwaukee to see the Bulls play the Bucks a few years back. Not many road games… this was going to be awesome!

I have a good friend who lives down in Florida; a guy that I’ve been to a handful of games with before this. I think the first one was a Cubs game. This was WAY back in the day; it was a very cold night game… Wrigley was pretty empty. We snuck in a bottle of Kentucky bourbon (he may remember the name… Old Grand Dad?) and filled up our soda cups throughout the evening; it was a blast. The next time I think was a pre-season Bears game. It was against the Cardinals, and about 10 of us rolled out. Again, a great time was had by all. The most recent time was a road game, this time for the Bears in Oakland. Yes sir; THAT was a blast. I don’t recall if the Cubs won when we went, but I do believe the Bears won in the preseason game, and I know the Bears won in Oakland. So maybe we were undefeated? But… who would need to win for “us” to stay undefeated? He had been down in Florida for a while now, and was originally from Atlanta. Yes, he has love for the Bulls, but the Heat are his team now. So yeah, we’d be rooting against each other. His wife is originally from Chicago though… surely she would be rooting for the Bulls? I think his two daughters were split. Either way, I knew it would be a blast.

I was glad they were coming. At $135/ticket, 34 rows off the court, I was excited… knowing I’d pay 3x that amount for the same seats at the UC. The tickets were purchased; our hotel was reserved. The 3.5 hour drive from Orlando to Miami lied ahead of us. Going to see any of my teams play on the road is really cool. Meeting up with my friend and his family to attend the game together? This is going to be great! Let’s go Bulls!!! To the road…
