You already know I love Chicago sports; I’m sure you can connect the dots and understand that I love Chicago too. This is my home. I hate to see negative stuff about my city, but understand that negative stuff does happen here; it happens like that in most big cities, and in general, this type of stuff can and does happen anywhere nowadays. But Chicago, yeah, kind of known for that; this isn’t something new. The violence… not sure if anyone has heard of Al Capone; “it was different back then”… really? “It’s way worse today!”… really? Well, not going down that rabbit hole, but fact of the matter is, I love Chicago.

I saw something cool about Chicago the other day; it has to do with the original area code for the city, 312. They talked about how they came up with area codes, and since it was still the rotary phone days, they tried to make these prefixes the easiest for big cities. Thus, New York is 212, LA is 213, and Chicago… yep, 312. This was the area code for all of the city back then, and remains that way today for a ton of numbers. Back about 30 or so years ago, they had to come up with a new area code, and thus 773 was born. When I got my cell phone, I wanted to keep 312, but ended up getting the 773; can’t remember why I couldn’t get 312… maybe I had to pay extra or something, not sure. But yeah, no more 312 for me.

Speaking about 312… that is the abbreviation of a date, today, March 12th. It’s not Chicago’s birthday; that happened 8 days ago on March 4th. Yet, it is an important day in my life; it’s my wife’s birthday! Wait, let me backtrack a minute… March 12th is THE most important day in my life… haha. But yeah, born in Chicago, love Chicago, 312 area code=Chicago, and I marry a woman with the 3/12 birthday; maybe it was written…

I believe in destiny; I firmly believe things happen for a reason. I do believe that we have free will and have a say in what is going to happen, no doubt, but at the end of the day, there is a bigger plan; sometimes our plans do not coincide with this bigger plan. Sometimes we are not happy about it; sometimes we don’t understand it. Sometimes maybe we can make a better effort, plan better, etc, to make OUR plan happen. At the end of the day though, we are not as much in control of our lives as we’d like to think; that’s hard to accept sometimes…

Getting married, having a family, was part of my plan. This “plan” doesn’t work without my wife; she is at the center of it all. There are really not enough words to describe how much she means to me; I know I don’t show that enough in the day to day grind that is life. But on this one day, this weekend, I really tried to show it; that’s the very least I can do, and the new restaurant I chose for us didn’t even cook her steak right… wtf!?!? Oh well… back to normal now… living our lives around our son’s schedule, focusing on work that is hectic, doing whatever else we do each and every day. Although not every day can be her birthday, I can still try to show her the other 364, right? Happy Birthday babe.
