March 8, 2023: Brag Time

I don’t like to brag; that is not part of my personality. I like to do my thing, and let others decide what they think, knowing that I’m confident in what I’m doing. I’ll try to pass that same thing down to my son, but in the meantime, can I have a little brag time about him? Talking about my son again? WTF. Yeah, is that OK? Why am I asking… haha. This is my space; welcome to it by the way. Glad you’re here. I try not to do this too much, but…

My son went like 20-1 this year with his school basketball team. The kid has some skills, no cap. His handles are impressive; his shot is pretty damn good too. He’s definitely not afraid to shoot. He’s improved his overall hustle this year, showing a little more confidence out there. Yes, he still has room to grow, in all aspects of his game; after all, he’s still only 10 years old. And yes, he still has a lot to grow… literally. He has inched up a bit, but… that boost, still hasn’t arrived. When it does? Watch out. If my son had the size of some of these kids out there right now, it’d be over. In due time, in due time… patience. He’ll continue to work on his game; with our hoop that we can roll out in the alley all summer, I’ll make sure of that. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead on the court for my boy. But that’s not all…

He’s a swimmer too, a pretty good one. I think I already mentioned this, but it’s worth mentioning again. He qualified for the state tournament! Yeah, he’ll be swimming in 4 events, the individual freestyle 50m, individual butterfly 50m, and 2 separate relays. Plus, we just got word that he’ll have one last chance to qualify for another event this weekend: he’s close in breaststroke and 100 IM. Either way, on St. Patrick’s Day weekend, we’ll be heading to the state tournament for the first time!!! I’m fricking hyped up. Can’t wait to see my son give it his all. Let the chips fall where they may, but what a time to be alive! And wait, there’s more…

Yes, his 3rd and final sport, that he has time to play, is baseball. The kid is an athlete OK. He can do it all. I’m really looking forward to seeing how he’ll do in baseball the next couple years. We’re finally locked in a good house league that has their stuff together, with a ton of kids playing. Sure, he’ll be one of the youngest in the league this year, but he’s no stranger to that; he’ll hold his own. And I’m coaching him in this league; did I say I was hyped up? Yeah, I love to coach; of course, a big part of that is hanging with my boy. Spending that time is more important than anything else I can do, at least IMO. Seeing him play on the field, on the court, in the pool… it doesn’t get much better.

OK, I’ll stop now. Of course, I’m keeping it about sports, because this is what I write about, but yeah, he’s a straight A student too, and a pretty awesome overall kid. My wife and I always say how he’s the best thing we’ve ever done together. Excited, and of course nervous about the future, but I’m not going to worry too much about that, because I want to enjoy every moment in the present to the max. Back to your regularly scheduled programming…
